Our resource person for this session is Professor Anil Kumar A**l. Professor Anil Kumar A**l is a distinguished scientist, academic leader, and global expert in Food Science, Food Safety, Functional Foods, and Bioeconomy. He serves as the Professor and Chair of the Food Innovation, Nutrition, and Health (FINH) and Food Engineering and Bioprocess Technology (FEBT) programs at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. 🍃

Recognized among the Top 0.1% of scientists in Food Science and the Top 2% globally across all fields, he has dedicated his career to advancing innovative and sustainable food systems. Prof. Anil’s work spans-controlled release technologies, nanotechnology applications in food and pharmaceuticals, antimicrobial resistance, and risk mitigation strategies. With an h-index of 50 and over 10,945 citations, he has authored over 200 high- impact journal articles (primarily in Q1 journals), 65+ book chapters, and 10 books, and holds 10 international patents. His research and consultancy projects, funded by the European Union, USAID (United States Assistance for International Development), ADB (Asian Development Bank), World Bank, UN-FAO, UNIDO (United Nation Industrial Development Organization), UNEP (UN Environmental Program), and leading food and biotech enterprises, have contributed significantly to global food security, safety, and policy development. 🌿

Beyond research, Prof. Anil is a trusted advisor, keynote speaker, and editorial board member for top international journals. His insights on sustainable food systems, innovation, and industry transformation have shaped global discussions, including an opinion piece on millets published in Forbes (USA) in 2024. Passionate about translating science into real-world impact, he remains committed to building a healthier, safer, and more sustainable food future for all. 🌾

Friday night (7th Feb) was all about good food, great vibes, and even better company! 🌍✨ We came together- 12 nationalities, one big family—to welcome our newest members with open arms, laughter, and of course, a feast from around the world. From potluck delights to impromptu dance moves, karaoke anthems to fun games, every moment was filled with pure joy.

💫Academic Visit from Faculty of Technology, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka 🇱🇰

On Feb 7, 2025, a group of students from Faculty of Technology, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka, visited the Biotechnology laboratory of the FINH-FEBT programs at AIT.
During the visit, the students had the privilege of meeting Prof. Anil Kumar A**l, who shared valuable insights on food science and innovations in biotechnology. Additionally, Ms. Melada, Lab Supervisor, provided an in-depth tour of the laboratory, highlighting the advance equipments and technologies integral to our research initiatives.
The students also had the opportunity to engage with current PhD and Master’s students, learning about their ongoing research.
It is inspiring to witness the enthusiasm demonstrated by the visiting students.
