Andi had been invited by Sheldon Shaeffer, Director General of UNESCO Bangkok to personally join the conference and with his "Montessori" oriented ideas to reform schools in Thailand.

This was on December 26, 2004. We led the worship team at the Catholic Church with Father Vinai, who led the holy mass. After he then announced that something terrible had happened—Patong got flooded, he said—I changed the tunes from happy guitar and drums (actually we had congas and bongos) to silent, sad violin tunes. After the service we went to the newly built Central when suddenly families entered in bathing suits. I had asked one of them, and they told a story about a big, giant wave that was coming from the sea. For me, as a geography teacher, it was clear that it must be a tsunami that had happened. This also means that it is not only affecting Patong but probably the whole coastline up to Myanmar and further to Bangladesh, India, and Indonesia. We then drove home to Rawai, and I took the motorbike to check on damages in the Montessori School. I had just quit my educational director position on Christmas Eve because a voice in my head had told me to get out of the school. Now I knew why we actually were in Thailand and that God had sent us here to fulfill an important job.

I just came here in April 2004. I had two more offers. An international school director position at Yellowknife in Canada (half a year light and half a year night). And a director's position on Saint Martin (but expensive living costs and getting off the island). Even though the position in Thailand was the worst-paid one, I liked the challenges it had, and so we finally decided to go to Thailand.

Those are the plans of the Tap Lamu School. They were approved and ready to be built just 1 1/2 months after the tsunami had washed away the school completely. Amazingly fast, the Thai Army had rebuilt this now pretty massive school!

At the Assumption Church in Phuket, LisAndi Family was leading the worship for the German service organized for relatives of the tsunami victims. The German Foreign Minister Fisher had been invited, and the Catholic and German Protestant pastors from Bangkok.

Yeah the 4 January was an important day and is still a very important day in our family.

On that day, the foreign minister of the USA was visiting the Phuket Provincial Hall. On that 4 January, Anakin, my second son, also got into the media in Thailand and even worldwide because he had been mixed up with a Finnish Swedish boy. And on 4 January 2007, my fourth son, “On Eagle's Wings,” was born at Mission Hospital in Phuket.

Yeah, the 4th of January was an important day and is still a vital day in our family.

🙂 Here is the image of that media conference together with Anakin and the Thai soldier Vinai.

I just came down from the PPAO Office when reporters asked me, with cameras pointing to my face, why I had kidnapped this boy. I explained to them that nobody got kidnapped and that this child is my son Anakin. We had always left him with our friends from the Sea Gypsy Community in Rawai and Kho Siree, so we were able to help families that were looking for their relatives.

Fortunately, a reporter from a Thai TV station then cleared up all and verified that Anakin is my son and not the missing Finnish-Swedish boy. His grandmother had seen the picture of Anakin where he was sitting in the arms of the Thai soldier Vinai in Finland and thought that this was her grandchild. As the media now had lost their “great” story, they were eager to create a new one. So, it took them only 45 minutes to locate the Thai soldier Vinai and bring him to the Phuket Provincial Hall. There, they then streamed live and on tape and in media the story behind that image of Anakin and Khun Vinai that went around the world, causing all the confusion.

The grandmother had informed the Finnish Red Cross, and they then Interpol, and got the whole avalanche running with false evidence.

A sad but also an interesting time just at the start of our time here in Phuket where I met all kinds of people I probably would have never met. With many of them, I have still contact and honestly, I like still being here in Thailand and doing social projects.

Yeah, we got computers and had to install them all before bringing them to Watkommaneyakhet School in Khu Kak Khao Lak.

Andi is setting up a computer donation from Gymnasium Seifhennersdorf in Germany and building Montessori materials for schools in Khao Lak. And best of all, some computers are still running about 10 years later at the school, and you will be able to find even still the Montessori materials. Many hours have been invested to get things done—voluntarily!

Beluga School in Na Nai - Thai Muang - Phang Nga. On
February 15, 2006 I did not know that 20 years later I will be involved again with the same school. Tawan had spent time in that school too, and so the circle got closed, and the LisAndi Family is again in the process of helping the underprivileged children at Beluga School.

At the later rebuild Rajaprajanugroh School 35 in Ban Sak we had organized a German Camp in cooperation with the German Language Department of Satree School Phuket.
