Some of our highlights from Huay Pakoot 🐘🐒🌏

Greenspire is officially back in Traverse City with extremely full hearts. 💚🌎

For 17 incredible days, these students were arms deep in conservation efforts, building meaningful connections with the community of Huay Pakoot and the amazing team at Canopy Conservation.

To say we are proud of these incredible young adults would be an understatement. They represented the Greenspire community with dignity, passion, curiosity, and grace every step of the way.

Over the course of their journey, our students:
🌱 Planted 170 trees to support local conservation and reforestation efforts.
🐘 Collected behavioral data on four elephants: Bundhi, Dambo, Mario, and Rambo.
🐍 Were present for the discovery of a Chinese Himalayan pit viper, a species that had not been seen in the region in over 10 years.
🗣️ Learned the basics of Pakinyaw, a language and culture deeply connected to the Karen community.
🐒 Surveyed and collected behavioral data on five gibbons in the surrounding area.

But perhaps even more importantly, they formed meaningful relationships, stepped outside of their comfort zones, embraced new experiences, and proved just how much determination, grit, and passion they carry with them.

Thank you to everyone who supported these students, encouraged their journey, and believed in the importance of giving young people opportunities to experience the world and make a difference.

We are beyond proud of everything they accomplished and the passion they brought to this experience. Greenspire’s impact was felt more than 10,000 miles away and we know these experiences will continue to make an impact long after the journey has ended. We continue to maintain our relationships with Huay Pakoot for years to come. 💚🌎

It is Day 7 in beautiful Huay Pakoot, Thailand! 🇹🇭

Our Greenspire high schoolers are having an incredible experience here in this beautiful Karen village. Not only are they taking in the breathtaking views of the Thai countryside, but they’re also getting elbows-deep—literally—in conservation efforts!

So far, our students have:
🌱 Planted more than 70 trees along the edge of the jungle
🐘 Collected data on 4 elephants
🦧 Collected data on 4 gibbons
🧺 Learned about traditional Karen culture through language classes, jewelry making, basket weaving, and bamboo carving.

Every day, our students are learning from the land, the animals, and the local community—and gaining a deeper appreciation for the importance of conservation and cultural connection.
Greenspire’s impact is being felt more than 10,000 miles away from home, and we couldn’t be prouder of these students and the hard work they’re doing to make the world a better place. 🌎💚

Welcome to the Greenspire Family Eli Holm, Greenspire High School’s new principal and Superintendent 💚

The Greenspire School has announced new leadership for the upcoming school year. Eli Holm has been named superintendent and high school principal, bringing more than 20 years of educational experience from Washington state. The school also promoted Becky Morse from middle school assistant principal to middle school principal. School leaders say the new leadership team will build on Greenspire's focus on authentic learning, environmental stewardship, and strong community connections.

Even though we just wrapped up an incredible 2025–26 school year, we're already looking ahead to the start of another amazing year at Greenspire School!

We're excited to share our 2026–27 Academic Calendar. This year, we've worked to align our calendar more closely with the TCAPS schedule, helping support families who have students attending schools in multiple districts.

Summer is a great time to visit our campuses in Traverse City and learn more about our hands-on, student-centered approach to education. As a tuition-free public charter school serving grades 6–12, Greenspire is currently accepting applications for the 2026–27 school year. With students returning on September 8, now is the perfect time to discover what makes our school community unique.

Greenspire welcomes students from throughout Northern Michigan, including Grand Traverse, Antrim, Kalkaska, Benzie, Leelanau, and surrounding counties.
The Greenspire Middle School is nestled alongside The Village at Grand Traverse Commons with direct access to miles of trails and natural learning spaces. The Greenspire High School is located on beautiful Boardman Lake with immediate access to the Boardman Lake Trail and outdoor learning opportunities right outside the classroom.

A summer tour is the best way to experience Greenspire firsthand and see if it's the right fit for your student.

On Tuesday, our freshman Pathways class attended the GVSU Health Career Fair at NMC, where students had the opportunity to learn about a variety of careers in health care. The students did an an awesome job!
