Eswatini has no shortage of breathtaking landscapes, yet domestic tourism remains underutilised. Findings from the 2026 Domestic Tourism Study, commissioned by the Eswatini Tourism (ETA) and conducted by the Eswatini Economic Policy Analysis and Research Centre (ESEPARC), show that while emaSwati are interested in travelling locally, trips remain infrequent, short, and largely social, with restaurant experiences leading the way. Affordability, time constraints, and low trust in booking platforms continue to limit participation, despite clear interest in domestic tourism.

Day 2 of stakeholder engagements on the National 4IR & 5IR Strategy and the review of the National Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Policy began with an informative recap on the STI Policy, where the groups formed yesterday presented the outcomes of their review. Following this recap, the programme moved on to today’s main agenda item: discussions on the National 4IR & 5IR Strategy, allowing stakeholders to explore key priorities and practical interventions. These sessions are structured to promote stakeholder ownership and to ensure that the proposed interventions are practical, scalable, and responsive to national priorities.

The Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, in collaboration with ESEPARC, is currently convening stakeholders for the validation of the review of the National Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy.
This critical engagement is providing a platform to assess progress across priority sectors, identify systemic gaps in the national innovation system, and align strategic actions required to transition Eswatini towards a knowledge-based and globally competitive economy.
The review places strong emphasis on strengthening research and innovation infrastructure, investing in human capital, enhancing industry–academia linkages, and establishing sustainable financing mechanisms for STI.
