We are proud of UWC Eswatini alumni John Koffi!

🎓The beautiful story of a second-generation graduate:

✨Meet Njamba Koffi, a RBC graduate from 2017, who works as a manager at the Vancouver Foundation and is currently completing his MBA at UBC Sauder School of Business — one of Canada’s top business schools — all while working full time in philanthropy. His studies have taken him across the globe through exchange programs and courses with leading universities in Spain, Chile, Ghana, South Africa, and soon, Taiwan.

📝The author of the book Refuge-e: The Journey much desired, Njamba – originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo – arrived at RBC in 2015 on a refugee scholarship, after having wandered through multiple countries in East and Southern Africa as a refugee. He has now found a home in British Columbia, Canada. His story and personality have touched so many at RBC, and we are beyond proud to follow his impressive academic, professional, and personal journey. 🫶

His favorite memories of RBC? “The people! Being at RBC was the first time I was in a community in which I felt I could be fully myself, and in which almost everyone was genuinely curious to get to know me and my lived experience. All my memories are tied to the people: in the Mensa eating, in the auditorium performing, in the rooms enjoying each other’s company, in the Black Forest going for walks.”

When Philani left Eswatini to attend UWC Changshu China, he wasn’t sure what to expect. “I thought I wouldn’t feel welcome, but from the moment I arrived, I felt at home.” In a culture that initially seemed unfamiliar, Philani embraced new traditions, built meaningful friendships and discovered the power of stepping outside his comfort zone. On this World Day for Cultural Diversity for dialogue and development, we’re sharing Philani’s story, which reflects the journey of so many UWC students. His journey is a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when young people are given the space to connect across cultures and grow together.
