Here are some snippets of the powerful keynote address by the guest speaker, Mr Gcina Dlamini during the MLS week commemoration ceremony that was held at EMCU.

"Today we stand in the digital age of diagnostics. Artificial Intelligence, big data and interconnected laboratory information systems are reshaping how we detect, monitor and respond to disease. What once took weeks can now be done in hours, sometimes minutes. The laboratory has become not just a place of science but the beating heart of global health security."

"Our laboratories have stood in the Frontline of HIV and TB response, ensuring that science translates into lives saved."

"We have embraced biosafety and biosecurity, positioning Eswatini as a regional leader in capacity building and harmonization."

"Yes challenges remain, workforce shortages, procurement delays, donor dependency, but Eswatini has shown resilience. Each obstacle has become an opportunity to innovate, to strengthen systems and to lead regionally."

Laboratories of tomorrow will be profoundly different. They will be smart, powered by automation, robotics and AI. Dat will flow seamlessly from rural clinics to national dashboards, guiding real time decision-making."

The future is not technological, it is human. It is about building systems that are resilient, equitable and sustainable for the benefit of the patient population.

To Govenment: Invest in labs as the backbone of health security.

To partners: Support infrastructure, innovation and workforce development.

To Scientists: Embrace new technologies while safeguarding biosafety and biosecurity.

To all stakeholders: Recognize labs as the Frontline of public health and national development, not hidden backrooms of science.

Today EMCU proudly hosted the Medical Laboratory Science day commemoration ceremony. This day is commemorated annually. It attracted Med Lab students from SANU, Eswatini Society for MLS, Ministry of Health officials, Blood bank officials to name a few.

A Medical Laboratory Science Day commemoration is usually designed to showcase the field and inspire students considering careers in laboratory medicine.

The event was more interractive as companies dispalyed and educated the students about some of the gadgets used. That made the event more interactive, practical, and career-focused.

Companies set up booths displaying diagnostic equipment, reagents, and technologies (like automated analyzers or molecular testing tools). Representatives explained how these tools are used in real diagnostics, everything from blood tests to detecting diseases like HIV or Tuberculosis.

Students watched simple lab procedures like microscopy, blood typing, or sample processing. This helps them understand core concepts such as Hematology, Microbiology, and Clinical services.

Such an event presents networking opportunities for students as they can speak directly with professionals and recruiters, ask questions, and even learn about internships, scholarships, or mentorship programs.

The event often emphasizes the role of lab science in healthcare highlighting how accurate lab results support doctors in diagnosing and managing diseases.

EMCU is grateful to be this year's host for the ceremony.
