Have you noticed, bad is passive to move to the other lower end of the spectrum you just do nothing at at all but the other way around never happens by its self.
When i look around progress in the society is centered around convenience, comfort, soft life... so we're prone to move towards the negative end of the spectrum because we put effort towards achieving comfort which is the thing needed for a collapse; "doing less effort"
One thing I observe is that each generation enjoys comfort built by the previous one, but if they do not understand the effort behind it, they may stop valuing maintenance. When systems are not maintained, decline starts slowly.
Moral decay also plays a role. When honesty, discipline, and responsibility weaken, people start tolerating wrong behavior. Small wrongs become normal, and society slowly loses its strength from inside.
Corruption makes it worse. It redirects resources meant for development into private gain. Roads, schools, hospitals, and services get neglected. Trust in systems breaks down, and progress slows.
In the end, comfort is not the problem. The problem is when comfort removes responsibility. Without discipline and accountability, any society can slowly move toward decline without noticing it.
