On the 21st of November 2025, the department bid a heartfelt farewell to Mr. J. Islam, who has faithfully served as a Computer Science lecturer since 2016. Today the GrowIT JA team had an interesting visit to the UNESWA Computer Science department, where they presented their machine learning oriented project aimed at plant diagnosis, management and upkeep. A collaboration between the two teams sees the department offering technical and domain knowledge support in development and realisation of this lovely project. This falls well in line with the department’s vision in fostering early access and entry to Artificial Intelligence, capacity building, community development and engagement.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed colleague, Dr. M.M. Mathunjwa. Dr. Mathunjwa was a dedicated and passionate lecturer in the Department of Physics, leaving an indelible mark on both his students and colleagues.

Dr. Mathunjwa’s commitment to education extended far beyond the classroom. His warmth, patience, and unwavering support made him not only an exceptional teacher but also a cherished mentor. Many of us—his colleagues—were once his students, and we can attest to the profound impact he had on our academic journeys.

As we mourn the loss of Dr. M.M. Mathunjwa, let us also celebrate the impact he had on our academic community. His memory will forever be etched in the halls of our university.
