🎤 WHEN STUDENTS FIND THEIR VOICE IN ENGLISH!

A few weeks ago, we shared some memorable moments from the exchange session between Saotomean English School (SES) and Budo Budo Professional Center. Today, we want you to hear directly from our students. 🌍🗣️

In this video, some of our students stand before the audience and share their thoughts in English — putting into practice not only what they have learned in the classroom, but also the confidence to communicate in a real-life environment.

At SES, we believe that English must go beyond the classroom. Our students need opportunities to speak, interact, exchange ideas and build the confidence to use the language wherever they go.

Today, 13 August, Saotomean English School opens a new space for dialogue with the first session of U-TABLE CONVERSATIONS.

🎙️ Theme: YOUTH AND EDUCATION

Inspired by International Youth Day, our first conversation will bring together students, teachers, education professionals, social actors, institutional representatives and invited guests to exchange perspectives on youth, education, opportunities and the future of São Tomé and Príncipe. 🇸🇹

🌍 SPECIAL INTERNATIONAL GUEST

We are particularly honoured to welcome Dr Ifesinachi Okafor-Yarwood, Lecturer in Sustainable Futures at the University of St Andrews, Scotland who will join the table and bring an international academic perspective to our conversation.

At U-TABLE, we believe some of the most important conversations happen when different generations, experiences and perspectives meet around the same table.

What opportunities does education need to create for today's youth?

What challenges are young people facing?

How can English, education and international exposure open new doors?

And, importantly:

What can young people themselves contribute to the future of São Tomé and Príncipe?

This is more than an English-speaking activity.

It is a space to speak, listen, question, exchange ideas, build confidence and connect local voices with global perspectives — through English.

🌍 INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY | 12 AUGUST

Today, as we celebrate International Youth Day, Saotomean English School celebrates the energy, talent and determination of young people who are contributing to a better future for São Tomé and Príncipe. 🇸🇹

At SES, we are particularly proud of Prof. Wendy Vaz, one of our youngest English teachers, whose enthusiasm, strength and dedication reflect the kind of youth we believe in: young people who are willing to learn, lead, serve and make a difference.

From the classroom to educational activities beyond our walls, Wendy has been proudly representing SES in different initiatives around São Tomé and Príncipe, sharing her knowledge, interacting with students and demonstrating that young educators can play an important role in transforming education.

Her journey also represents what we want for many more young people: opportunities to develop their skills, build confidence, take responsibility and positively impact their communities.

On this International Youth Day, SES celebrates Wendy and all young Santomeans who are working, studying, creating and contributing to a brighter future.

🌟 Dreams don't start abroad. They start with the decision to learn.

Today, we proudly celebrate one of our A1 (Beginner) students, who confidently interacted with native English speakers in front of fellow students.

Many people believe that speaking English is only possible after travelling abroad and we respectfully disagree.

At Saotomean English School (SES), we believe that confidence is built through the right teaching methods, consistent practice, and real communication opportunities.

This student didn't become confident by chance. She has been trusting the process, working hard, and embracing every opportunity to speak English.

Today, she reminds us all that you don't have to leave São Tomé and Príncipe to start speaking English. You just have to start.

Following our successful meeting with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Higher Education of São Tomé and Príncipe, SES – Saotomean English School was also honored to host a public information session attended by parents, students and invited guests.

During the event, the representatives of David Game College (United Kingdom) presented the exciting opportunities available to students wishing to pursue their education in the UK. 🇬🇧🇸🇹 Strengthening International Educational Partnerships

Saotomean English School (SES) was honored to accompany our distinguished partners from the David Game College during an official courtesy meeting with the Secretary of Education of São Tomé and Príncipe.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to introduce our UK educational partners to the Ministry of Education and to discuss future areas of collaboration aimed at expanding educational opportunities for the people of São Tomé and Príncipe.

Together, we explored possibilities for:

Academic partnerships and institutional cooperation;
International study opportunities for Sao Tomean students;
Capacity building and professional development;
Promotion of quality education and global engagement.

🤝 Building Bridges Through Language and Learning

At SES Language & Tourism Group, we believe that learning English goes far beyond the classroom.

Recently, we had the privilege of accepting an invitation from Budo Budo Professional Center for a memorable exchange session involving students from both institutions. It was a night filled with meaningful conversations, collaborative activities, cultural exchange, and opportunities to practice English in a real and engaging environment.

These moments help students build confidence, develop communication skills, make new connections, and discover that language is a bridge between people and opportunities.
