WHY ARE WE CRITICIZING OUR OWN BROTHERS/PROFESSIONAL HELPERS?

PERSONAL OBSERVATION!

I have recently observed, with concern, increasing criticism and ridicule—both online and offline—against men who choose midwifery.
Some students and professionals are mocked simply because they have chosen this profession. As a medical professional, I find this troubling because I understand the sacrifice and commitment required to pursue healthcare education. We should encourage our young people to acquire professional skills and serve society rather than making them feel ashamed of their career choices.

MIDWIFERY IS A PROFESSION, NOT A GENDER!

From a professional and clinical perspective, it is important to recognize that midwifery is a specialized healthcare profession, not a gender-based profession. Midwives are professionally trained to provide care during pregnancy, labour, childbirth, and the postnatal period, including essential newborn care and recognition of complications. Competence, clinical skills, ethics, compassion, and professionalism are not determined by gender. A qualified male midwife should therefore be judged by his professional competence and conduct—not by the fact that he is a man.

WHY SOUTH SUDAN NEED EVERY QUALIFIED HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL.

As a medical professional and practitioner, I believe South Sudan needs every qualified health worker it can produce. In 2022, WHO reported only 0.41 doctors and 6.9 nursing and midwifery personnel per 10,000 people, with many health workers concentrated in urban areas, leaving rural communities underserved. We should therefore encourage both men and women to pursue healthcare professions and serve communities wherever their skills are needed.

PROFESSIONALISM, PATIENT RIGHT AND THE ROLE OF MALE MIDWIFE.

Supporting male midwives must go together with protecting the rights of women receiving maternity care. Every woman deserves dignity, privacy, confidentiality, informed consent, and respectful care. Male midwives must maintain professional boundaries, respect patient preferences, and follow applicable clinical and ethical standards. Where a woman reasonably prefers a female provider, her preference should be respected where practicable. Patient rights and professional dignity can coexist without discrimination.

THE HARM CAUSED BY RIDICULE AND DISCRIMINATION.

ridicule and discrimination can damage confidence, discourage students from completing their education, and reinforce harmful stereotypes. such attitudes may also prevent young people from entering professions that are urgently needed to improve maternal and newborn health.

A CALL TO OUR COMMUNITIES: RESPECT EVERY PROFESSIONAL CAREER.

As a medical professional and practitioner, I appeal to our families, students, educators, leaders, and communities to stop treating legitimate career choices as a source of ridicule or shame. To men studying midwifery, remain focused, develop your clinical competence, uphold professional ethics, and serve your patients with dignity. To our communities, let us encourage rather than discourage our young people. A male midwife is a healthcare professional, and excellence in midwifery is defined by competence, ethics, compassion, and commitment to maternal and newborn health—not gender.

OPEN LETTER TO THE LEADERS AND ELDERS OF BAHR EL GHAZAL AND THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH SUDAN

Subject: An Urgent Appeal for Dialogue, Forgiveness, Reconciliation and Peace
To H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit,
To Gen. Paul Malong Awan,
To Gen. Nhial Deng, Nhial,

To our respected elders, leaders, intellectuals, women and youth of Greater Bahr el Ghazal,
And to the people of South Sudan,
I write this message with a deeply frustrated heart, but also with hope for peace.

Why has it become so difficult for us as South Sudanese to resolve our own differences before involving outsiders? Why can we not first sit together as brothers and sisters, speak honestly about our disagreements, acknowledge our mistakes, forgive one another, and find a way forward?

I am particularly appealing to the elderly men and women of Aweil, Warrap, Abyei, Lakes, and Western Bahr el Ghazal. You are the custodians of our history, culture and wisdom. I humbly ask you to consider calling a serious family meeting where our differences can be discussed openly and peacefully. Let us sit together as a family before our disagreements become another source of suffering for our people.

To our leaders,

H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit: I appeal to you as a leader and as a father. Where there have been misunderstandings, grievances and political disagreements, let forgiveness and dialogue have a chance. Extend your hand to those with whom you have differences and invite them to a genuine conversation.

Gen. Paul Malong Awan and Gen. Nhial Deng: I equally appeal to you. If you have concerns about the direction of our country, come forward and express them openly. If you believe that mistakes have been made, let us discuss those mistakes through dialogue rather than violence.

Why should it be so difficult for South Sudanese leaders to sit face-to-face and honestly tell one another where they believe they have gone wrong and where they have done right?
No leader is perfect. No politician is above criticism. But disagreement does not have to become hatred, and political competition does not have to become armed conflict.

A question to all of us;
Are we truly fighting for the suffering citizens of South Sudan, or are we sometimes allowing personal and political interests to come before the needs of our people?

Our people need peace. They need food, education, healthcare, roads, security and opportunities for their children. They do not need more hatred, division and violence.
As a citizen of South Sudan and a member of the Bahr el Ghazal community, I am asking myself: where is the national agenda in all this division?
Let us stop turning every political disagreement into a permanent conflict.

Stop the social-media rebellion. I also appeal to our people to reduce the political hostility on social media. Social media can be useful for communication, but it can also deepen divisions when we use it to insult, accuse and provoke one another. Let us stop fighting one another through social media and start talking to one another face-to-face.

If trust has been lost among our leaders, then let respected elders, religious leaders and other trusted South Sudanese help facilitate the conversation. But ultimately, peace must come from the willingness of the parties themselves to sit down and listen.

Let us come home and talk
If we truly care about South Sudan, let us accept opportunities for dialogue.
Let us acknowledge where we have made mistakes.

Let us forgive where forgiveness is possible.
Let us correct what can be corrected.
Let us protect our people from another cycle of violence.

South Sudan has suffered enough.
Bahr el Ghazal has suffered enough.
Our families have suffered enough.
We cannot continue creating hatred and division without asking ourselves who ultimately pays the price.

I therefore appeal to President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Gen. Paul Malong Awan, Hon. Nhial Deng, our elders, political leaders and all South Sudanese: please choose dialogue over confrontation and reconciliation over revenge.

History will judge all of us—not only by the positions we held, but by what we did when our people needed peace.

Let us give our children a different future.
Let us choose peace.
Let us choose forgiveness.
Let us choose reconciliation.
Let us choose South Sudan. 🇸🇸

A Call to Scale Up Medical Oxygen in South Sudan

When Every Breath Matters

Consultant Physician in Emergency and Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Justin Kawac K. Makuei, has called for urgent investment in medical oxygen infrastructure in South Sudan, saying oxygen should be treated as an essential component of the country’s healthcare system rather than a luxury.

Dr. Makuei made the call while mourning the death of Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, whom he described as a father figure, a statesman and a great man. He said the loss had also reminded him of the painful reality that patients in South Sudan continue to die when medical oxygen is unavailable at the time it is urgently needed.

The physician revealed that he had personally lost two people close to his heart because oxygen was not available when they needed it. He said this experience had compelled him to repeatedly raise the issue with individuals and institutions capable of contributing to improvements in critical care and medical oxygen availability.

According to Dr. Makuei, South Sudan needs to regard medical oxygen as essential national health infrastructure. He explained that although establishing an oxygen plant requires substantial investment, its main raw material is atmospheric air, which is readily available.

He noted that technologies such as Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) can be used to separate and purify oxygen from air, after which it can be compressed and supplied to hospitals and patients who depend on it. He acknowledged that such systems require reliable electricity, regular maintenance, skilled personnel and an effective distribution network, but emphasized that they could provide a sustainable domestic source of medical oxygen once properly established.

Dr. Makuei said his advocacy for medical oxygen infrastructure was not motivated by business interests, but by what he described as patriotism and a commitment to saving lives.

He further expressed concern that some people had attempted to take ownership of the idea, but maintained that the urgency and passion behind his advocacy came from having personally stood at the bedside and witnessed patients die because the oxygen they needed was simply unavailable.

However, he stressed that his message was not intended merely to express frustration. Rather, it was also a reflection on the death of Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, whom he mourned deeply and regarded as a great man.

Dr. Makuei concluded by urging the government, health institutions, development partners and other stakeholders to invest in medical oxygen production, storage and distribution infrastructure.

He said the country should work toward building a healthcare system in which no patient dies simply because a hospital has run out of oxygen.

His central message was clear: South Sudan must invest in medical oxygen infrastructure because every breath matters and access to oxygen can mean the difference between life and death.

CUEI-BET COUNTY FOOTBALL TEAM APPEALS ON THE BCT VERDICTS.

SUBJECT: FORMAL APPEAL AGAINST THE DISQUALIFICATION OF CUEI-BET COUNTY FOOTBALL TEAM

Dear Members of the Standing Committee,

The Management of Cueibet County Football Team respectfully submits this formal appeal against the decision communicated in your letter dated 17 August 2026, disqualifying Cueibet County from the Bhar El Ghazal Counties’ Tournament 2nd Edition 2026.

We acknowledge and strongly condemn the unfortunate violence that occurred following our match against Twic County on 16 August 2026 at Munuki Playground. Cueibet County Football Team does not condone violence, the use of dangerous weapons, destruction of property, or any conduct that threatens the safety of players, supporters, officials, or members of the public.

However, we respectfully disagree with the imposition of the most severe sporting sanction—disqualification of the entire team—and hereby request a review of the decision on the following grounds:

1. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER THE FINAL WHISTLE

The BCT decision itself states that the violence and disorder occurred after the central referee had blown the final whistle and the match had concluded.

Accordingly, we respectfully request that the Committee distinguish between incidents occurring during the match and conduct that allegedly occurred after the official conclusion of the match.

We further request clarification on how Article 16 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code applies to the specific circumstances of this incident and how it provides the legal basis for disqualification from the BCT tournament.

2. INDIVIDUAL ACTS SHOULD NOT AUTOMATICALLY BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE ENTIRE TEAM

The BCT decision refers to “some fans of Cuei-bet County football team.”

We respectfully submit that the actions of individual supporters should not automatically be treated as acts committed by the entire football team, its players, coaches, or management.

Neither the Cueibet players nor the official team management instructed, authorized, encouraged, or participated in the alleged violence. On the contrary, during the disorder, Cueibet players and members of the management were present and attempted to calm the situation and prevent further escalation.

3. CUEIBET COUNTY DOES NOT DEFEND OR JUSTIFY VIOLENCE

Our position is unequivocal: violence and the use of dangerous weapons are unacceptable and cannot be justified by any disagreement arising from a football match.

If specific individuals are established to have committed criminal or disciplinary offences, we respectfully believe that those individuals should be identified and held accountable based on evidence and individual responsibility, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

4. THE CIRCUMSTANCES PRECEDING THE INCIDENT SHOULD BE REVIEWED OBJECTIVELY

We respectfully request an impartial review of the circumstances immediately preceding the incident, including concerns raised by supporters regarding the conduct and decisions of the match officials.

This submission is not intended to justify the subsequent violence. No disagreement with a referee’s decision can justify violence.

However, a complete review should establish objectively what occurred before, during, and after the final whistle, rather than considering only the consequences of the incident.

5. REQUEST FOR THE LEGAL BASIS OF THE DISQUALIFICATION

The BCT decision states:

“Cue-bet County football team is disqualified from Bhar El Ghazal Counties’ Tournament 2nd Edition in accordance with Art. 16 of FIFA Disciplinary Code.”

We respectfully request the Committee to provide:

* The exact edition of the FIFA Disciplinary Code relied upon;
* The exact wording of Article 16 applied in this matter;
* The specific provision of Article 16 that authorizes disqualification from the BCT tournament;
* The applicable BCT competition rule establishing that disqualification is mandatory or justified under these circumstances; and
* The evidence establishing official responsibility of Cueibet County Football Team, as distinguished from the actions of individual supporters.

This request is made not to avoid accountability, but to ensure due process, legal clarity, fairness, and consistent application of the tournament regulations.

6. REQUEST FOR RECONSIDERATION AND PROPORTIONALITY

We respectfully ask the Committee to consider that:

• The match had already concluded when the violence occurred;
• The BCT decision attributes the acts to some individual fans;
• Cueibet players and management did not organize, authorize, or encourage the violence;
• Cueibet players and management attempted to calm the situation;
• Cueibet County does not condone violence or the use of dangerous weapons; and
• Disqualification has a serious and collective impact on players, management, and the wider Cueibet County football community.

In light of these circumstances, we respectfully appeal for the withdrawal of the disqualification.

Should the Committee determine that disciplinary action is necessary, we respectfully request that a proportionate alternative sanction be considered, while individuals proven to have committed acts of violence are dealt with individually under the applicable rules and laws.

CONCLUSION

Cueibet County Football Team respects the BCT, its officials, participating counties, and the principles of fair play. We equally recognize the responsibility of tournament organizers to ensure the safety and security of players, officials, supporters, and the public.

This appeal is therefore not an attempt to defend misconduct. It is an appeal for fairness, due process, individual accountability, proportionality, and the proper application of the applicable regulations.

We respectfully request the Standing Committee on Technical Affairs to review the decision, provide the specific legal basis for the disqualification, and reconsider the sanction imposed upon Cueibet County Football Team.

We remain committed to peace, discipline, sportsmanship, fair play, and the successful continuation of the Bhar El Ghazal Counties’ Tournament.

1. This lawsuit of divorce should be heard in a closed court session since it's a high-profile case. This also protects the privacies of the children and the parties.
2. Submission of the application for the custody and welfare of your children. Legally, the best interest of your children is a matter to be determined by this competent court of law. This includes children's education, medication, residence/shelter, maintenance, frequent visitations of their mother, and etcetera.
3. Obtain a copy of the judgement for both the divorce and the custody of your children.
4. Reset, refocus, restart, and readjust yourself for new marriage and new Governorship of Warrap State, respectively.

UN vehicle hits elderly SSPDF soldier in Jebel

An elderly South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) soldier was reportedly knocked down by a United Nations vehicle in Jebel, Juba, according to an eyewitness. The soldier was reportedly bleeding heavily at the scene before being taken to hospital for medical treatment. Following the incident, one police officer was seen preventing angry onlookers from attacking the alleged UN driver, who was later taken to a police station for further questioning. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and no official statement has been issued at the time of reporting.
