Students ​Field Trip Report: Nimule National Park From

​1. Introduction & Academic Appreciation
​Back in Juba, I sincerely thank the University of Juba (College of Natural Resources and Environmental Studies, Department of Wildlife) for organizing our 14-day academic trip.
​Special thanks to the Nimule community, local authorities, and park management for their wonderful hospitality.

​2. Practical Learning & Biodiversity
​We gained hands-on experience in identifying and assessing wildlife, vegetation, birds, and insects.
​Observed diverse species, including Uganda Kobs, hippos, baboons, vervet monkeys, oribis, warthogs, and dik-diks.
​Explored and enjoyed the scenic beauty of the Fulla Fulla area.
​3. Ranger Challenges & Appreciation
​We salute, Administration of Nimule National Park Brig. Gen. Zack Oburak Park warden Maj. Lino, and the rangers stationed at outpost and Commando posts since 2005.
​Despite enduring severe hardships—such as working without salaries for nearly three years, lack of basic provisions, faded uniforms, and torn boots—they remain dedicated to protecting our national heritage. Learning of their struggles deeply moved me.
​4. Call to Action
​To the Ministry of Wildlife Conservation and Tourism & Partners: Urgently intervene and assess the conditions in Nimule National Park.
​We must collectively support the management teams across all 6 national parks and 12 game reserves in South Sudan to preserve our natural wealth for future generations.
​Let wildlife conservation and management start from individuals, communities, and authorities for the benefit of the entire nation.

A Call to Protect Our Heritage: South Sudan’s Wildlife is Our Future
​To my brothers and sisters across South Sudan,
​We stand at a critical crossroads. For generations, our vast landscapes have been blessed with some of the most magnificent wildlife migrations and ecosystems on Earth. But today, the sound of gunfire and the trap of the snare are silencing our forests and savannas.
​We must stop killing our wildlife at the slightest opportunity.
​Every animal hunted out of impulse or short-term necessity is a permanent loss. We are actively driving our precious natural heritage toward extinction. When the last giraffe, elephant, or antelope is gone, no amount of money or regret can bring them back. Our children and grandchildren will only hear stories of the animals that once roamed free in our land.

​نحن نقف عند مفترق طرق حرج. فلعقود طويلة، مُنحت مساحاتنا الشاسعة بعضًا من أعظم هجرات الحياة البرية وأكثر النظم البيئية روعة على وجه الأرض. ولكن اليوم، يعمل صوت الرصاص وفخاخ الشباك على إسكات غاباتنا وسافانا.
​يجب علينا التوقف عن قتل الحياة البرية في أبسط الفرص.
​إن كل حيوان يتم صيده نتيجة نزوة أو ضرورة قصيرة الأجل هو خسارة أبدية. نحن ندفع بتراثنا الطبيعي الثمين نحو الانقراض بنشاط. وعندما يرحل آخر زرافة أو فيل أو ظبي، فلن تعيدهم أي أموال أو مشاعر ندم. لن يسمع أطفالنا وأحفادنا سوى قصص عن تلك الحيوانات التي كانت تجوب أرضنا بحرية

The authority of Nimule National Park would like to acknowledged and appreciate the role played by students from University of Juba School of Natural Resources and Environmental studies especially the Department of Wildlife during thier data collections process in managing to contribute in the removal of some wire snares and freeying one Uganda kob successfully back to it's Natural life.
The students observed various aspects of Park's infrastructure and operational setup that reveal insights into the Challanges faced by the authority.
Therefore the research conducted will provide critical baseline information to guide the development of the park in the future by ensuring sustainable conservation in Nimule National Park
"Nature is not a place to visit but it's a home" we need to cherish and take care of it.

The River Has Two Very Different Neighborhoods
On one side: the hippos.
On the other: the crocodiles.
And somehow… nobody is crossing the street. 😂
It looks less like a watering hole and more like the wildest neighborhood meeting in Africa:
Hippos: “This side is ours.”
Crocodiles: “Perfect. We prefer that side.”
River: “Can everyone please stop staring at each other?” 😂
No shouting. No fighting. Just two powerful forces sitting quietly across the water like they’re waiting for someone to make the first move.
🌍 Nature doesn't always need action to create tension.
