The Ministry of General Education and Instruction has announced plans to extend the year and increase teaching hours, following a suspension of school operations due to the .
Deputy Minister Martin Tako says there is a need to review the country’s act to potentially adjust the opening period to March or April.
Tako also mentioned that the ministry, along with the education cluster, will meet to discuss the academic calendar and explore ways to minimize school closures during the dry and hot seasons.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has rejected requests from several schools seeking exemptions from school closures due to the high temperatures.
Minister Tako says the requests can not be granted, as it would endanger the lives of both students and teachers by exposing them to extreme heat.
