Valentino Deng

Valentino Deng Valentino Deng is an advocate for the right to universal education and sustainable development.

Over the past decade he has shared his experience during the Sudanese civil war with the world through speeches, What is the What, a book written with American author Dave Eggers, and through the work of his foundation to promote access to educational opportunities in his native country of South Sudan. While spending nine years in exile, as the Sudanese civil war raged on, he began his career in public service as a social advocate, peer counselor and reproductive health motivator for various humanitarian organizations in East Africa. He was appointed as the State Minister of education in South Sudan. This position charged him with overseeing more than 800 state run schools in addition to his schools. Today, you will find Valentino working to expand the foundation through establishing vocational training opportunities and advocating for women’s education.

Faced with various obstacles including COVID- 19 pandemic closers, financial constraints, flood, and security matters, our team did their best and now bits farewell to the 189 12th Grade candidates(90 girls and 99 boys) who have just completed the South Sudan Certificate for Secondary School Education Examinations. This marks official completion of their secondary education level and spark the beginning of another, the tertiary education journey. We look forward to opportunities that God has in store for these wonderful children.
As such, I would like to thank the teachers, support staff, invigilators, parents/guardians, education partner organisations, MoG.E&I and the people of goodwill who contributed in different forms to help educate our young people.
