I committed to go through with something that I was not good at yet.
In May, I struggled a lot with preparing for a talk on digital nomadism and regional revitalization, a topic that I've developed much passion for in the last 2 years but haven't had a clear direction of where I want to go with it. My ideas were all over the place.
I gave the talk and it didn't go well, as I expected. What I didn't expect was that I felt surprisingly calm about not doing better. I remember thinking "Wow, Mei, you must really be learning something new. You already tried your best." That might be the first time I completely accepted myself in my life.
After the talk, someone came to talk to me about the five different apps he was building at the same time. I didn't know what the connection was between his apps and my talk. I listened patiently because I was curious where this would lead to.
At some point, I asked him, "What can help us see more good ideas for building an app?"
"You already answered that question in your presentation!" He responded immediately, looking at me with his eyes wide open.
Huh? I noticed I was trying not to remember that I just did the talk.
"It's empathy!" He exclaimed.
Oh wow, he heard the page I liked the most out of 56 pages. Did I find my soulmate? 🤣 Maybe my presentation didn't go as badly as I thought.
Also, because I went through with it, I got lots of good advice on how I could make it better.
It can only get better from here!
