In the Old Testament God commanded the people of Israel to give their first tithe towards the need of the Levites (Lev. 27:30-32; Num. 18:21, 24, 26-28). He also ordained that the first fruit is for the priests (see Lev. 2:14; Num. 18:8-20). The teaching of the New Testament follows the same pattern. God ordains that those who feed the flock should eat from the flock.
"In the same way, the Lord ordered that those who preach the Good News should be supported by those who benefit from it" (1 Cor. 9:14, NLT).
