CI Adekus Presents Wonderful Performances to Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of China - Suriname Diplomatic Relations
On May 28, 2026, local time, the Chinese Embassy in Suriname grandly held a reception to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Suriname at the Torarica Ballroom. His Excellency Lin Ji, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of China to Suriname, and His Excellency Gregory Rusland, the Vice President of Suriname, attended the event. More than 300 people, including ambassadors of various countries to Suriname, government officials, prominent figures from all walks of life, overseas Chinese in Suriname, and representatives of Chinese - funded institutions, gathered together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Suriname. Ms. Asin - Oostburg, the President of Adekus and Chairperson of the Council of CI Adekus, and Ms. Chen Aifeng, the Chinese Director of CI Adekus, were invited to attend the grand ceremony and jointly witness this important historical moment in the friendly development of China and Suriname.
The cultural performance session of this reception was full of highlights. CI carefully prepared two special programs, adding luster to the grand ceremony. Among them, under the planning and leadership of Zhang Yiqian, a teacher from CI and the professional guidance of Li Lingli, a teacher from the Chinese Dream Art School, 19 first - year junior high school students from the AAHA School (Arthur A. Hoogendoorn Atheneum), a teaching site affiliated to CI, painstakingly rehearsed for three months and affectionately performed the song "Countries". The teenagers' clear and accurate Chinese singing and full - fledged emotional expressions won warm applause from the guests on the scene. The song "Countries" not only demonstrated the love and inheritance of Chinese culture by Surinamese teenagers but also vividly interpreted the cultural connotation of "the unity of the family and the country, and harmony under heaven". At the end of the song, the students held up the national flags of China and Suriname and shouted in unison, "I love China, I love Suriname", transmitting the pure friendship between the two countries with their youthful voices and becoming a warm and touching highlight of this celebration.
In addition, the Chinese Embassy in Suriname, CI Adekus, and Chung Fa Foei Kon (affiliated unit: the Chinese Dream Art School) jointly planned the program "China - Suriname National Costume Show". Students from the Chinese Dream Art School and performers of other ethnic groups in Suriname performed on the same stage. The gorgeous national costumes and graceful dances complemented each other, vividly showing the diverse and inclusive multi - ethnic cultural characteristics of China and Suriname and winning rounds of applause from the guests on the scene.

CI Adekus communicates with the Ministry of Justice and Police of Suriname about cooperation matters
On May 20, 2026, the Chinese Director of CI Adekus, Chen Aifeng, and the Surinamese Director of CI Adekus, Shelley Soetosenojo, held discussions with the Ministry of Justice and Police of Suriname regarding potential future cooperation.
Mr. H.Monorath, Minister, Mr. B.Somaai, Permanent Secretary Operational Services, Mrs. M.van Lierop, Deputy Director General Management, Mrs C.Berkleef, Senior Policy Officer, Mr D.Lieveld, Policy Officer, Mrs. M.Vroom, consultant for Training & Capacity Building, Mrs K.Mangalie, Secretary, attended the meeting.
Minister Monorath pointed out that Suriname and China have always maintained friendly relations. Chinese people have been immigrating to Suriname for over 170 years, and the Chinese population accounts for a relatively large proportion among foreigners in Suriname. He hopes that the staff of the Ministry of Justice and Police can better serve the Chinese community and Chinese people in Suriname. At the same time, he also hopes that Surinamese laws can be more widely disseminated, and communication between law enforcement officers and the public can be smoother. In view of this, the Ministry of Justice and Police hopes to cooperate with CI Adekus to improve the department's service quality and promote legal awareness.
Both sides will conduct a needs survey, formulate relevant plans, and develop long-term cooperation projects.
