IOM Somalia Multi-hazard Displacement Projections for July - September 2026 highlights displacement in Somalia due to climate change.

An estimated 197,560 people are projected to be displaced across all districts in Somalia between July and September this year. That’s enough to fill more than two FIFA World Cup stadiums.

Today, nearly 1.74 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) are living across top 5 districts of projected displacements in Somalia which is equivalent to filling more than 20 World Cup stadiums with people who have already lost their homes.

After three days of dialogue, collaboration and strategic planning, the Security, Stabilization and Solutions (3S) Alignment Workshop concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening partnerships that support peace, stability and durable solutions across Somalia.

Every discussion throughout the 3-day Security, Stabilization and Solutions (3S) Alignment Workshop in Mogadishu has so far focused on one common objective: improving outcomes for the people and communities we serve.

Through stronger coordination, shared priorities and closer partnerships, IOM Somalia and its partners are working to ensure that stabilization efforts translate into tangible improvements in people's lives—from strengthening local governance and security to expanding opportunities for recovery and durable solutions.

The opening day of the Security, Stabilization and Solutions (3S) Alignment Workshop featured a high-level panel discussion exploring Somalia's evolving political, security and development landscape.

Representatives from the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union joined IOM Somalia to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing stabilization efforts and the importance of sustained partnership in delivering meaningful results for communities.

Strong partnerships with the UK in Somalia, government institutions and international partners to support locally led solutions, are essential to foster resilience, security and long-term recovery.

Somalia’s National Coordination Mechanism (NCM) Technical Working Group (TWG) Inception Workshop is underway in Mogadishu!

From 5–8 July 2026, government institutions, partners, and technical experts are coming together for a four‑day workshop to strengthen Somalia’s NCM.

Days 1 & 2 featured introductions, regional best practices, and breakout sessions on Labour Migration, Diaspora, Protection & Reception and Border Management and Anti-Trafficking — laying the foundation for terms of reference and a clear 12‑month workplan.

In the coming days, TWGs will focus on reintegration, return, readmission and migration data.

Today, we are welcoming government officials, development partners and colleagues in Mogadishu for a 3-day Security, Stabilization and Solutions (3S) Alignment Workshop.

The 3S workshop provides an opportunity to strengthen coordination, align priorities and reinforce a shared vision for stabilization and durable solutions across Somalia.

Working alongside partners including UK in Somalia IOM is committed to fostering closer collaboration that helps build resilient communities, strengthens local institutions and promotes lasting peace and stability.

Over the coming days, participants will exchange experiences, identify opportunities for greater complementarity and explore practical ways to maximize collective impact.
