Soil and water conservation through the construction of soil bunds plays a vital role in the restoration and protection of degraded land. By reducing soil erosion, enhancing soil fertility and improving the land's moisture retention capacity, soil bunds contribute significantly to sustainable land management.

These structures help slow surface runoff, increase water infiltration, and support groundwater recharge, thereby improving agricultural productivity and strengthening the resilience of ecosystems and rural communities.

This is one of our soil and water conservation interventions in Ceeg village.

In Beerato Village, Odwayne District, 30 women are transforming their lives through greenhouse farming. With support from Oxfam, a greenhouse equipped with a modern drip irrigation system was established, enabling them to successfully grow and harvest tomatoes.

The newly constructed water infrastructure in Sheikh Aware Village, comprising an elevated water tank, an animal trough and a 1-kilometer pipeline extension connected to the community water kiosk is now fully operational. The project has significantly improved access to safe, reliable and sustainable water, benefiting both community members and their livestock.

The project was implemented by Candlelight and supported by the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF), through United Nations OCHA Somalia.

The launch ceremony of a new Cluster Level Association (CLA) called "Dallada Al-Khayre" established by Candlelight in Erigavo was successfully held.

The newly formed CLA brings together Self-Help Group (SHG) members, providing them with a stronger collective voice to advocate for their social and economic interests, enhance community participation and promote sustainable community development.
