👏 👏 🎊 Congratulations 🎊 👏 👏
Today, the National Electoral Commission officially presented the candidacy certificates to the three Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, marking a significant milestone in the democratic journey of the Republic of Somaliland. This momentous occasion not only highlights Somaliland’s unwavering commitment to democratic principles but also reinforces its role as a beacon of democratic achievements in the Horn of Africa and the broader African continent.
This marks the third presidential election in Somaliland over the past two decades, a testament to the resilience and determination of its people. Concurrently, the political association elections will unfold, featuring ten political organizations vying for three coveted national party positions. This competitive landscape reflects the vibrant political discourse that characterizes Somaliland’s democratic framework.
In a pioneering move, Somaliland is poised to lead the way in ensuring free and fair elections by becoming the second country globally to implement the IRIS Biometric Identification System. This innovative technology underscores a commitment to transparency and integrity in the electoral process, setting a high standard for democratic practices in the region.
The strides toward democracy, good governance, and economic development achieved by the resilient people of Somaliland over the past 30 years have largely been accomplished with minimal foreign intervention. Yet, the aspirations of Somalilanders for international recognition remain unfulfilled. Despite their enduring pursuit of legitimacy on the world stage, the global community has often overlooked the remarkable progress made by this nation. In a world that can often be indifferent, this oversight feels particularly cruel to those who have worked tirelessly to build a brighter future for their homeland.
