Tribute to Trin “Coumba
Today, we gather with hearts full of gratitude and emotion to pay tribute to an exceptional young woman, a devoted Peace Corps agent, and above all, a true friend of Mbam: Trin, affectionately known among us as “Coumba.”

For two years, Coumba lived and worked among us with remarkable dedication. A tireless worker, brave, patient, and deeply committed, she never spared her energy when it came to serving others. Her work ethic and sense of responsibility inspired students, teachers, and community members alike.

Coumba played a decisive role in the life of the Mbam English Club. She stood by the students during rehearsals, encouraged them to speak with confidence, and opened their minds to the wider world. Through her efforts, our students established meaningful correspondences with Iroquois students in the United States, building bridges of friendship, culture, and mutual understanding across continents.

Beyond the English Club, Coumba left her mark on our school and community in many lasting ways. She patiently reorganized and revitalized our library, turning it into a more welcoming and useful space for learning. She also worked closely with the women of our localities, supporting them in agricultural activities and empowering them through practical knowledge and collaboration.

In recognition of her outstanding commitment and selfless service, the students of the Mbam English Club proudly presented her with a symbolic big picture during the 10th anniversary of the Club—a simple gift, yet one filled with deep appreciation, love, and respect.

Coumba, your mission in Mbam may have come to an end, but your legacy will remain alive in our hearts, in our school, and in our community. You arrived as a volunteer, but you leave as a sister, a mentor, and a source of inspiration.

On behalf of Mbam, thank you for believing in us, working with us, and walking beside us. We wish you success, fulfillment, and happiness in all the paths ahead.

📢 Mbam English Club Recap – Saturday, Jan 25, 2025 📢

Our last English Club session was AWESOME! 🎉 With the help of Maïmouna Ndiaye, a dedicated volunteer from Corps Africa, we introduced students to Scaffolding Writing using Parts of Speech as a pretext.

📝 What we did:
✅ Students gave examples of prepositions, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, and nouns, which we wrote in a big jumbled-word circle.
✅ We formed groups, each led by a mentor. First-cycle students got support from second-cycle peers.
✅ Their task? Build as many sentences as possible using the jumbled words—without repeating any!
✅ To wrap up, mentors wrote five of their best sentences on the board.

🌟 The students loved it! This session proved how important it is to teach writing step by step, yet it's something we often overlook. Let’s keep fostering creativity and confidence in English!

Yesterday, we'd tried to help our students get some letter writing skills always by making them collaborate and produce sentences and paragraphs. We'd seized the opportunity to let them do their first drafts concerning the exchange letters' program under the supervision of Mrs Ndiaye who were of a great help.

📬✨ Exciting News from Mbam English Club!

We are thrilled to announce the successful launch of our Exchange Letter Program with Iroquois School in New York! This program marks a significant milestone for Mbam High School, as we aim to strengthen cultural and linguistic connections between our students and peers across the Atlantic.

Yesterday, Saturday, January 18th, 2025, we received the very first batch of letters from New York. The excitement in the air was palpable as our students eagerly opened and read letters written in both English and French. This bilingual approach helps both schools to enhance their language skills while learning about each other's cultures.

Our students will be responding in English, showcasing their learning and sharing their unique stories and experiences. This initiative not only improves language proficiency but also fosters mutual understanding, global awareness, and meaningful friendships.

We believe programs like this are crucial for empowering our youth with the tools to communicate effectively in a globalized world. Let’s continue to support and celebrate educational initiatives that broaden horizons and build bridges!
We were blessed to have the visit of Trin (Coumba Faye a Peace Corps volunteer and initiator of this awesome program) and two other extraordinary volunteers from Corps Africa (Memory from Malawi and Mouna from Yeumbeul) They did a wonderful job.Not to forget My colleague M. Sarr and all the others who would love to attend it (M. Kamara, Mrs Diouf, Mrs Ndiaye...).

Stay tuned for updates as this exchange unfolds.
