Last Friday, we met with the one and only Modou Fall, aka Plastic Man / l’Homme plastique who has worked tirelessly for well over a decade to push back on plastic pollution in Senegal and beyond. In the video, he talks about his past experience walking from Dakar to Saint Louis (112 miles!!!) while wearing the plastic robe he created to raise awareness and decry the crisis affecting all life on land and at sea.

Première sortie - First excursion ! This weekend before classes start, we drove out to:

📍Lac Rose (Pink Lake)
📍Le Village des tortues (Tortoise Village)

Pink from the algae and salty from the ingress of subterranean water from the ocean, Lac Rose is a major source of Senegalese salt (38,000 tons!) harvested by hand by thousands of people each year.

The Village des tortues, south of Lac Rose near Sangalkam, is a private conservation organization and garden that shelters, raises, and reintroduces turtles and tortoises into natural habitats.

Asalaam maleykum! 🇸🇳 The first two days in Dakar have been PACKED with cultural orientation sessions, food, and a whole lot of walking through the city!
