It was a pleasure for YouthMappers accross Africa and the Caribbean to participate in the MAP&CLEAN African & Caribbean Challenge, which was held on the 20Th of September 2025.
Youth Mappers Technical University East had the opportunity to participate in the Map$Clean Challenge, it was fun, inspirational, interactive, and educational.
This event was combined with both theories and practical implementation, students had the opportunity to learn two courses which enabled each participants to achieve two certificates for taking the courses. The ChatMap course was quite interesting, which unveiled the possibility that anyone from what ever level could immensely contribute to open mapping without any prior expertise. The introduction to open mapping gave every participant a scope of open mapping, possibilities of open mapping, and the power of open mapping.
From the courses, came the practical implementation of what was learnt, students participated in a day cleaning exercise and trash mapping contributing immensely to a cleaner, greener, and safer environment for all.
On behalf of I and my team and every YouthMappers or groups who participated in the Map$Clean challenge, extend sincere thanks and appreciation to the organizers, and every individual who helped put things together for the event. The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) was an incredible support team, from learning to implementation.
I end by saying, open mapping is becoming more easier and simple for everyone at all level to contribute faster with the use of ChatMap. These are simple tools changing the world one map at a time, YouthMappers have always been dedicated and committed to these innovations and initiatives, playing key roles in humanitarian and community developments across the globe.

Isn’t just about ensuring food security and climate resilient practices, but having a proper sanitation system and education, plus a safe and hygienic environment, promotes a healthier life, mitigates disease risk and micro organisms that triggers diseases such as, malaria, cholera, diarrhea, etc.
In addition, having the community to be at the forefront of such initiatives in tackling sanitation and hygiene, will have a successful impact and result, also with a huge potential for sustainability of such developmental strides.
Last year, we conducted a training on hygiene and sanitation with local communities.
To practically showcase how the training could be implemented, we just concluded a hygiene and sanitation drive in which the training participants led the initiative around communities to share hygienic and sanitation strategies, techniques, and materials to support their communities in tackling hygiene and sanitation, ensuring a healthier environment and wellbeing for all.
