Sierra Leone News: 98% of Students want certificates rather than concept -IPeM
The Project Proponent of Institute of Petroleum and Management (IPeM) has said that research has proven that 98 percent of Sierra Leonean students are now focusing on acquiring certificates rather than knowing the concept., stating “I am afraid that the human resource base of this country is severely challenged looking at it in decades times.”
He made this statement while he was briefing the press on their upcoming IPeM Sierra Leone’s 1st Student Conference with the general theme: thematic concept: Managing our Resources: Potential Opportunities and Challenges; sub theme: Galvanizing Possibilities to mitigate Exploration and Production Risk.
IPeM Project Proponent, Alex Bangura, explained that it is evidenced by geologic findings that Sierra Leone has some of the world’s most precious mineral resources, such as diamond, rutile, bauxite, gold and iron ore, including marine resources, seismologic report on crude oil and natural gas and a fertile soil for vegetation, not to talk of the country’s topography and population density, stressing that “we have not seen much in terms of benefit.”
He said having realized the natural resources endowed in the country, “Sierra Leone has not been able to tap into the resources in terms of returns, stating that is why “we have come with the initiative as per the conference to let the young people, the new breed, to know and realize the importance of our natural resources and to manage what we have as a nation.”
That is why Mr. Bangura said the conference is coming in two fold: one has to do with human resource which is an invaluable resource as well as natural resources to manage and benefit socially and economically from what we have.
The Project Proponent highlighted that the conference will last for seven days; five days of workshop training and two days of conference, explaining that on the 6th day of the session, it will have to do with oil, gas.
