For the first time in the history of DEMSA we can now proudly boast of what identifies us as an Association
DEMSA Departmental Regalias
Under the leadership of Prezzo AKK and Team

Hard work, resilience, and teamwork are the foundation of true leadership. It’s not about standing above others, but standing with them pushing through challenges, showing up with consistency, and building together. These values have shaped me into the leader I am today not because I am perfect, but because I’m committed to growing with my team and never giving up.
And for the first time in the history of Demsa (Development, Economics and Marketing Students Association) witnessed the most decorated and celebrated event within the Association.
Having served as the longest-serving Secretary General, created platform for me to occupy enviable positions like Auditor General and Chairman of all committees. These positions with the rich knowledge I have inculcated shaped me to serve in the capacity of President of our department.
It is indeed true and affirmative that a political party can serve as a training ground for future politicians, but if that is so, then DEMSA has been much more than that. DEMSA has been a home—a crucible where boys are shaped into men, and where enlightenment, empowerment, and education merge to fuel growth and purpose.
WHAT HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED
Over the years, I have served our beloved DEMSA with enthusiasm and sincerity, with not even a shadow of doubt in my heart. All praises to those who laid the solid foundation we now build upon. To our former leaders, I give my special accolades you embodied everything this association stands for.
Before I assumed office, I was fully aware of the challenges ahead. I knew that rekindling the spirit of enthusiasm among students would require vision and action. And so, to honor the hardworking students of this great department, I introduced a series of initiatives:
• To start with, Every student within Development, Applied Economics, Economics, and Marketing was certified and celebrated during their convocation as a gesture of appreciation from the Association.
• I rebranded our department regalia that includes new ID cards, customized hand bands, and for the first time ever, two iconic departmental jerseys that now speak boldly of our identity.
• I facilitated a collaborative football match with our sister Association, ABSA, strengthening camaraderie and unity.
• We revived our traditional campus cleaning exercises, a testament to our commitment to service.
• I worked tirelessly to bridge the gap between students and the executive board by creating platforms for communication, collaboration, and shared leadership.
• And today, you are part of this history witnessing the first-ever DEMSA Academic Excellence Awards, an initiative born from a simple but powerful idea: to celebrate ourselves.
WHY THIS EVENT:
This Awards Night is not merely a ceremony. It is a movement. A celebration of the diversity in leadership a theme that is more than a slogan. It is our mission. It is a call to recognize that no matter our backgrounds, our ideas, or our methods, we can lead best when we lead together.
Finally, I thank you all deeply most especially my dynamic team, The DEAN of Social Sciences, HOD, Mr. DANIEL, Mr. Johnson and other for your presence, your support, and your faith in this dream.

✅*Public Statement on Permanent Accreditation Status*✅
*23 August 2024*
The University of Management and Technology (UNIMTECH) is delighted to announce that we have been granted *permanent university status by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) of Sierra Leone, effective from 1st September 2024*. This *prestigious accreditation* follows the successful re-accreditation process, solidifying our commitment to providing quality education and academic excellence.
This significant achievement is the result of the collective efforts of our past and present academic and administrative staff, whose dedication and hard work have been instrumental in our growth and success.
We would like to particularly acknowledge the invaluable contributions of our *Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Rosaline Uyanga*, our *Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Patrick Taylor* and our late *Registrar Dr Aly Turay*, for their exceptional leadership and commitment to the vision of UNIMTECH.
Our heartfelt gratitude exceptionally goes to our *Chancellor, Professor Paul Kamara*, and the *Pro-Chancellor, Dr Paula Kamara*, whose visionary leadership has guided us to this milestone. Their dream, which *began in 1991 as a modest computer training centre*, has now been realised with UNIMTECH being recognised as a permanent university, offering a wide range of accredited programmes that continue to impact lives and communities positively.
We also wish to express our profound gratitude to *Njala University for their invaluable tutelage during our affiliation with them*. The guidance and support provided by Njala University played a crucial role in shaping our institution and preparing us for this significant achievement.
In 2021, UNIMTECH became an autonomous university, weaned from Njala University. This permanent accreditation now confirms that *we have the authority to establish any undergraduate and postgraduate programmes*, provided they individually go through TEC’s accreditation process.
UNIMTECH has strategically located campuses across the country, and we are proud to own all the buildings and properties on these campuses at *Kissy Dockyard (main campus) in Freetown, Western Area*, in *Bo (Southern Region)*, in *Kambia (Northwestern Region)*, in *Kono (Eastern Region)*, and in *Lunsar (Northwestern Region)*. We are committed to continuing our growth and making quality tertiary education available to disadvantaged populations at an affordable cost. *This commitment supports the government’s efforts and upholds our motto: _“For Country and For Humanity.”_*
Furthermore, we extend our deepest thanks to *our past and present students, as well as their parents and guardians*, who have believed in UNIMTECH from the beginning. Your trust and support have been pivotal in maintaining our standards of excellence and helping us achieve this permanent accreditation status.
The accreditation, which will be subject to annual reviews, covers a diverse range of Bachelor’s Degrees in Public Administration, Social Sciences, Technology, and Applied Sciences, along with Higher National Diplomas and Diplomas in specialised fields. This will enable us to continue our mission of delivering top-tier education and fostering innovation and research that contributes to the development of Sierra Leone and beyond.
We express our deepest *appreciation to the Tertiary Education Commission for their confidence in our institution, the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education and all education authorities in the country*. We are grateful to our students, faculty, staff, and partners for their unwavering support. Together, we will continue to build on this foundation, driving academic excellence and community engagement as we move forward.
