Alpha Sidie Bangura: A Trailblazer in Health Economics and a Beacon of Sierra Leonean Excellence

From the quiet town of Sanda to the global academic stage, Alpha Sidie Bangura has become a symbol of determination and excellence.

His early brilliance shone at St. Francis Secondary School in Makeni, where he earned outstanding results in both the BECE and WASSCE examinations.

A graduate of Fourah Bay College and holder of an MBA in Finance from the University of Makeni. He furthered his studies at Peking University (PKU) in China, where he specialized in National Development and Health Economics and was named the Best Graduating International Student.

Alpha’s brilliance shone again when he ranked second in PKU’s PhD entrance examination in Health Economics; an achievement that cements his place among Sierra Leone’s leading scholars.

Now a Lecturer at the University of Makeni, researcher, and entrepreneur, he continues to inspire through his work in education, innovation, and community development.

Dr. Alhaji Gbla is a medical doctor and lecturer in the Department of Physiology, COMAHS. He graduated with an MBBS from Belgorod State University, Russia (2018) and is currently a Specialist Physician in Training with the West African College of Physicians.

He has authored several publications, including:
1. Haemodialysis Practice in Sierra Leone – A Call for Urgent Action (Tropical Journal of Nephrology)
2. The Burden of Renal Admission in a Tertiary Hospital in Sierra Leone (BMC Nephrology)
3. A Review of Diabetic Admission in a Tertiary Hospital in Sierra Leone (Archives of Diabetes and Obesity).

Dr. Gbla is passionate about advancing clinical research and improving renal health care in Sierra Leone.

Shebora Samba Kamara is a dynamic and multitalented young man passionate about development, education, communication, and good governance. A proud alumnus of Saint Francis Secondary School, Makeni, where he held several leadership roles, Shebora has continued to distinguish himself in both academia and service.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and is pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of Makeni, where he also serves as a Lecturer and Public Relations Director. He further earned a Master of Law in International Relations from Jilin University, China, and has acquired several professional and academic certifications from institutions across China, Italy, the Netherlands, and Sierra Leone.

A former Station Manager of Voice of Wusum Radio 88.5 FM, Shebora is the Assistant Secretary General of the Old Makeni Franciscans’ Association (OMFA) and a passionate youth advocate, mentor, and public speaking coach committed to positive change and the fight against harmful drug abuse.

Glen David Dankawalie Fallah is a proud Franciscan and accomplished lawyer with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) with Distinction from the University of Makeni.

His academic journey, marked by excellence, earned him the Outstanding Outgoing Student award in 2023 and the Best Memorial Award in the 2022 ILRAJ Moot Court Competition.

He has held several professional roles, including Legal Researcher at The Law Basket Company, Legal Intern at Marrah and Associates, and Case Analyst at the Sierra Leone Legal Information Institute.

Currently, he serves as Vice President of the National Mooting Council and Legal Head of the World Food Forum Sierra Leone Chapter.

Glen is a passionate advocate for justice and human rights and balances his professional pursuits with a love for volleyball and community service.

Sia Mamie Koroma is a dynamic scholar and educator dedicated to advancing STEM education and public health innovation.

She is pursuing a Ph.D. in STEM Education and Entrepreneurship (Biology) at Lagos State University, following an M.Sc. in the same field, where she graduated as the best student with a GPA of 4.96. She also holds a First Class B.Sc. (Hons) in Public Health from the University of Makeni.

She has earned certifications in Infectious Disease Engagement and Education and IRS Management Training (PMI VectorLink Project). Currently, she serves as a Lecturer and Research Team Lead at UNIMAK’s Center of Excellence for Maternal and Child Health Education, while also pursuing entrepreneurial ventures.

Her professional journey includes impactful roles with HCD+ Africa, World Hope International (CHAMPS), PMI VectorLink, NACOVERC, and the Bombali DHMT, reflecting her commitment to education, research, and community transformation.

Born in Sambaya Bendugu, Tonkolili District, Mohamed Alhassan Sesay is a young Sierra Leonean scholar driven by passion and purpose.

He began his education at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Primary School in Bumbuna, where he was recognized as the Best NPSE Student in 2008/2009.

He continued at St. Francis Junior Secondary School and later at U.M.C. Junior Secondary School, emerging as the Best BECE Student in 2011.

Mohamed completed his secondary education at St. Francis Senior Secondary School, Makeni, successfully passing the WASSCE in 2015.

In 2017, he was admitted to the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), where his dedication and excellence earned him an Honours Degree in Pharmacy.

His journey reflects determination, hard work, and a commitment to making a difference through education and service.

Denis Conteh is a dedicated Pharmacist with specialization in Drug Production and Quality Assurance from the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP).

He holds a B.Pharm (Hons) from COMAHS, where he lectures in the Department of Pharmacognosy and heads analytical practical sessions.

Denis has earned certifications in English Language, Research, and Antimicrobial Resistance and Stewardship.

He currently serves as the Pharmacist in Charge at Gemstar Pharmaceutical Company and Coordinator for YouBest Biotechnology (China).

A former StoS President and SFSS Secretary, he is a proud Class of 2015 alumnus.

Benjamin Abu Turay is a passionate pharmacist, educator, and leader dedicated to advancing pharmacy education and student development.

He currently serves as a Demonstrator at COMAHS, University of Sierra Leone, and as a Lecturer at AMTA Medical College.

A proud alumnus of St. Francis Senior Secondary School and COMAHS, Benjamin has held several key leadership roles, including National President, Karene District Students' Union, President, National Association of Pharmaceutical Students - Sierra Leone (NAPS-SL), President, Old Makeni Franciscans Association- COMAHS (OMFA COMAHS), National President, Old St. Peter’s Students Association (OSSA), Chief Justice, Students’ Representative Council –COMAHS (SRC COMAHS), National Secretary General, Karene District Students' Union, Chairman, Constitution Review Committee, SRC COMAHS, etc.
