Erasmus+ mobility - University of Madeira

Assoc. Prof. Ivana Pondelíková participated in a teaching mobility within the Erasmus+ programme at the University of Madeira in Funchal (Portugal), which took place from 3 to 10 May 2026. During the mobility, she was invited to deliver a lecture entitled From Barriers to Bridges through AI Driven Design Thinking, which was carried out as part of the international project VETAssIst – Artificial Intelligence as VET Teacher Assistant. The lecture focused on the use of artificial intelligence, design thinking, and innovative approaches in the education of Generation Z, and contributed to the exchange of professional experience as well as to the strengthening of international academic cooperation. The mobility also contributed to deepening cooperation with colleagues Jane Spinola and Elena Bollinger, during which possibilities for further joint scientific, educational, and international project activities were discussed.

On April 17, 2026, the play The King's Speech was added to the repertoire of the Ján Palárik Theatre in Trnava. It presents the true, inspiring story of King George VI, the father of the recently deceased Queen Elizabeth II. Students from the Department of British and American Studies at the Faculty of Arts, UCM, attended the performance on April 28 along with their instructor, Dr. Božena Petrášová.

On April 2, Dr. Božena Petrášová from the Department of British and American Studies, along with her students, attended the comedy The Servant of Two Masters. The performance took place at the Ján Palárik Theatre in Trnava.

This comedy is considered one of the most popular and successful plays performed in theatres worldwide. The humorous situations, which were certainly in no short supply, were aptly complemented by live musical accompaniment performed by the actors of the Trnava theatre.

From April 13 to April 17, 2026, Dr. Božena Petrášová from the Department of British and American Studies completed a foreign business trip. The Erasmus+ mobility at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania, consisted of lecturing and observation activities, meetings with representatives of the Faculty of Humanities, and discussions regarding potential future cooperation between the members of the Department of British and American Studies at the Faculty of Arts, UCM, and colleagues from the Department of Foreign Language, Literary, and Translation Studies, particularly in the areas of project and publishing activities.

The "Malta Training Recap" 🇲🇹✨

From April 12 to April 19, 2026, doc. Ivana Pondelíková, together with colleagues doc. Katarína Welnitzová and dr. Jana Luprichová, took part in an international mobility in Malta 🇲🇹
During their stay, they also presented the Erasmus+ project VETAssIst – Artificial Intelligence as VET Teacher Assistant (2024-1-HU01-KA220-VET-000253387), which focuses on supporting VET teachers in the effective use of AI.
The main highlight of the mobility was participation in the professional course “AI-Powered Content Creation for Educators”, organised by . The course focused on developing practical skills in using AI tools for teaching and learning.
💡 What did the course include?
▪️ Principles of multimedia learning in educational content creation
▪️ Creating interactive images, presentations, and videos using AI
▪️ Applying gamification in education
▪️ Exploring AI tools for teachers
▪️ Hands-on workshops and international exchange of experience

This experience significantly strengthened participants’ digital and pedagogical competences, especially in the effective and ethical use of AI in education. The knowledge gained will be implemented both in teaching practice and within the VETAssIst project.

🤝 The mobility also included a meeting at the University of Malta, where discussions on future cooperation were initiated, especially regarding Erasmus+ mobilities for staff and students.

This international experience supports the ongoing modernisation and internationalisation of education, and the outcomes will be further shared with colleagues through workshops and professional discussions.

📚 Hosťovská prednáška na Katedre filozofie a politológie UKF v Nitre

Doc. Ivana Pondelíková prijala pozvanie Katedry filozofie a politológie UKF v Nitre, kde vystúpila s prednáškou Rethinking Gender Equality through Orientalist Discourse in Not Without My Daughter.

Prednáška sa venovala analýze orientalizmu a neo-orientalizmu ako diskurzov, ktoré formujú západné vnímanie Východu, najmä v kontexte rodovej rovnosti. Prostredníctvom interpretácie diela Bez dcéry neodídem (1987) od Betty Mahmoody poukázala na binárne opozície medzi Západom a Východom a ich vplyv na zobrazovanie iránskej kultúry a postavenia žien.

Zároveň zdôraznila, že aj napriek časovému odstupu zostávajú tieto témy mimoriadne aktuálne, najmä v kontexte pretrvávajúceho napätia medzi Spojenými štátmi a Iránom, čo poukazuje na potrebu kritickej reflexie kultúrnych stereotypov a vzájomného porozumenia.
