Cultivating Leaders for Innovative Coatings and Additive Manufacturing Applications

This project is funded by the European Union under research and innovation programme. CLiCAM project is a new project funded under the Horizon Europe program which started on September 1st, 2023. The consortium consists of 4 academic institutions: FunGlass as coordinator, Brno University of Technology (BUT), Institute of Plasma Physics of the CAS (IPP), and Politechnika Wroclawska / Wroclaw University of Science and Technology (WUST) + 7 industrial partners: Lithoz GmbH, Treibacher Industrie AG, Interpane Entwicklungs und Beratungsgesellchaft mbH, 3D Center Sp. The project’s main goal is to cultivate future leaders, so-called ERA Talents in research and innovations, through intersectoral collaboration.

💫 We are thrilled to inform you that Dr. Rajesh Mundotia, a CLiCAM ERA Talent from FunGlass Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass, presented the final findings on low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings for technical textiles at AGC Interpane in Lauenförde 🇩🇪. Outlining results from his one-year secondment training and initiatives, Dr. Mundotia also highlighted future experimental pathways to advance Low-E coating capabilities 🌿
📝 The presentation conveyed in presence of key engineering and research specialists from both AGC Interpane (Germany) and the AGC Technovation Centre (Belgium), including Dr. Hugues Wiame, Dr. Hansjörg Weis, Dr. Jeroen Schotsaert, Dr. Rebeca Correia and Dr. Louis Dellieu. Discussions centered on the performance, functionality, and durability of the developed coating systems for Low-E applications of technical textiles, establishing a foundation for prolonged collaboration between the FunGlass center and the AGC Group 🚀
Dr. Omid Sharif and Dr. Rajesh Mundotia discussed opportunities for stronger collaboration with European partners and the development of joint proposals for upcoming Horizon Europe calls. Potential areas of collaboration include advanced coatings, technical textiles, and innovative materials, with the shared objective of building strong international consortia and pursuing future European research and innovation funding opportunities. Strengthening collaboration with European industry and research institutions is an important element of the CLiCAM strategy, supporting the development of new partnerships and collaborative initiatives ⛓️

🚀 Day 1 is behind us– and the entrepreneurial energy is already high!
Yesterday, we kicked off the Business Plan Preparation & Strategic Decision-Making training under CLiCAM Innovation Leadership Programme at the FunGlass Centre in Trenčín, bringing together researchers, PhD students and professionals ready to turn ideas into opportunities. 💡🔥
Led by Dr. Erik Kubička, the first day was all about strategy, innovation and commercialisation. Participants explored how research ideas can be transformed into new ventures, analysed real-life examples of successful start-ups and university spin-offs, and got hands-on with the essential elements of a strong business plan. 📊🚀
And then it was time to play the business game! 🎯
Participants were introduced to CAPSIM Capstone 2.0, formed their teams and stepped into the world of strategic business decision-making. From understanding the market environment to making decisions that impact company performance, the simulation brought a practical and competitive dimension to the training. 📈💼
✨ New ideas. New teams. New perspectives. Real strategic challenges.
Day 1 set the stage for three days of learning, collaboration and entrepreneurial thinking. We can’t wait to see what the teams come up with next! 🚀

🎊 We are happy to share recent insights by our ERA talent Dr.Serhii Tkachenko from C E I T E C, Brno University of Technology, who undergoes a practical secondment at Zoz GmbH in Wenden, North Rhine-Westphalia 🇩🇪
📋 During the ongoing phase of his secondment, owing to the kind support of Zoz GmbH Director Katharina Zoz and Ing. Hans Ulrich Benz, he accomplished a series of experimental mechanochemical syntheses, producing highly reactive powders. He designed experiments and worked on high-kinetic ball milling process parameters such as powder mixture composition, milling speed, ball-to-powder ratio, and milling time 🔬
✅ Another important secondment phase involved training related to corporate management, innovation policy, and successful product R&D. Moreover, he had the opportunity to present his findings and experience at Zoz GmbH at the international conference ECC10, establishing new collaborations with international colleagues from the National Institute of Chemistry 🇸🇮, Ruđer Bošković Institute 🇭🇷, and Justus Liebig University Giessen 🇩🇪.

✅ Hands-on-training completed 🚀 In August, CLiCAM ERA talent Dr.Anastasiia Novokhatska from FunGlass - Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass has successfully completed her 3-month secondment at PMG OUEST COATING in Saint-Nazaire 🇫🇷
🔬 Working alongside Dr. Sébastien Beauvais, she participated in a practical training aimed on high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF), atmospheric plasma spray (APS) and cold spray processes. Besides working with laboratory specimens, she also worked with real industrial components for the nuclear energy and aerospace sectors, applying advanced characterization methods including adhesion testing, pe*******on testing, and metallographic analysis🔍

🚀 Strengthening Academia–Industry Collaboration through Industrial Training 💫

📰 Assoc. Prof. Amirhossein Pakseresht, head of the Coating Processes Department at FunGlass - Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass, participated in a successful joint meeting with the industrial partner, aimed at strengthening collaboration between academia and industry ⛓️
💡 During the meeting at PMG-Ouest Coating in Saint-Nazaire 🇫🇷, our ERA talent also participated in a training focused on key enterprise and industrial R&D skills, including innovation, knowledge transfer and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), project and time management in industrial R&D, customer interaction and industrial communication, trust-building in industry, as well as networking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills in an industrial environment 📋
🔥 Thanks to the support from Dr. Sébastien Beauvais, a quality assurance specialist at PMG-Ouest Coating, Amir had a great opportunity to present current research activities and ongoing projects of the Coating Department at FunGlass, during the meeting. Particular attention was given to identifying common research interests and discussing opportunities for future joint research projects and continued collaboration 🤝

🎊 We are excited to announce that CLiCAM ERA talent Abel Ourgessa from FunGlass - Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass successfully completed a 3-month secondment at Treibacher Industrie AG 💫
🔬 Under supervision of Dr. Richard Trache, Abel received an intensive training in preparation of suspensions for thermal spray applications and developed a stable suspension, based on industrial waste materials, suitable for thermal spraying. He also prepared waste glass-based alkali-activated substrates and, with the support of thermal spray expert Karl Körner, optimized the spraying process and operating parameters to achieve successful coatings on both alkali-activated and steel substrates 📊
👨‍🔬 Beyond the experimental activities, Abel presented his projects and the FunGlass Centre's expertise to the Treibacher R&D team, fostering discussions on future collaborative research. The secondment strengthened academia–industry knowledge exchange, promoted innovation in sustainable materials, and supported the development of next-generation waste-derived coating technologies within the CLiCAM project 📋

💫 We are excited to announce that our ERA talent Assoc. Prof. Amirhossein Pakseresht from FunGlass Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass, has started a three-month industrial collaboration with PMG-Ouest Coating in Saint-Nazaire 🇫🇷, as a part of the CLICAM project 📝
🧪 His work primarily focuses on the development of anti-sticking plasma-sprayed ceramic coatings for industrial rollers. It also aims to investigate the influence of coating composition, surface roughness and wettability on the non-stick behavior of ceramic coatings used in various industrial applications, including polymer film processing, packaging and textile rollers, paper manufacturing systems, and wear-resistant industrial components 📊
