Who says university classes only happen in classrooms? 📚✨

Our students recently took literature beyond the university walls and into the Karol Kmeťko Regional Library in Nitra.

As part of the course on Anglophone short stories, they prepared and led conversation classes based on the short stories discussed in class. Working in groups, they came up with questions connecting literature to personal experiences and current topics and sparked some really interesting discussions along the way 🗣️

A great opportunity to try teaching in practice and see how stories can bring people together.

A look back at the 24th edition of our Theatre Festival in Foreign Languages – “Lost & Found” 🎭

Over two inspiring days, students from primary, secondary, and language schools brought powerful stories to the stage - exploring friendship, identity, technology, exclusion, imagination, and hope.

This year’s performances showed not only creativity and language talent, but also how deeply young people reflect on the world around them 🌍

Thank you to all participating schools, teachers, performers, and guests for making this year’s festival such a memorable event. We are already looking forward to the next edition!

A look back at LINGPRIL 2026 🎤📚

At the end of April, our department was buzzing with ideas, discussion, and plenty of linguistic curiosity as we welcomed inspiring international and local scholars — Mathew Gillings, Simon Wehrle, and a fantastic trio from Banská Bystrica: Vanda Koniarová, Simona Nagyová, and Patrícia Hatiarová.

From (im)politeness in language and student activism to the melodicity of speech, the talks showed just how fascinating linguistics can be 👀

A huge thank you to all our speakers and participants for helping create such a lively and friendly atmosphere. We already can’t wait for the next edition!

We are pleased to see our department represented at international scholarly events.

Our colleague Dr. Martina Juričková recently took part in the Tolkien Round Table held at the University of Malta (April 24–25) 📚

The event brought together scholars to reflect on Tolkien’s work from linguistic, cultural, and theological perspectives. As Tolkien saw language not simply as a tool for communication, but as a bearer of memory, myth, and identity, the discussions highlighted how his invented languages and narratives create a unique unity between story and meaning.

Dr. Juričková contributed with her paper “The Theological Implications Behind the Big and Small People,” exploring deeper dimensions of Tolkien’s moral and symbolic world.

A look back at last week’s discussion with Slovak writer 📚

We had a full house 👏, plenty of thoughtful questions, and a genuinely engaging conversation about books, writing, and the realities of a writer’s life ✍️

Thank you for joining us, Barbora Hrínová - we appreciated the openness and insight you brought to the discussion.

And many thanks to doc. Martin Boszorád for hosting the event.
