What is the status quo of education for human rights, democracy and European values in Slovakia as compared to Czechia, Hungary and Romania in an international perspective? How can the challenges associated with, among others, the lack of political actors‘ attention to this subject be transformed into opportunities for enhancing the emphasis on and the quality of HR education? This and more is covered in the final report from the international project ‘Education for a Europe of Rights’ supported by the Allianz Kulturstiftung, Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) at Central European University and other partners including the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights Education at Comenius University. The report is freely available online at http://bit.ly/EERReport.

Professor Miroslav Kusý (1931-2019) was the founder and first Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights Education. His career was intertwined with Comenius University where he lectured in the 1960s until he was prohibited to continue his academic career during the normalization era of the 1970s and 1980s. Shortly after the Velvet Revolution, he was appointed Rector of the Comenius University and served as Founding Head of the Department of Political Science at the university. Furthermore, he was among the initiators of the nation-wide internationally renowned human rights competition for high school students, the Human Rights Olympics.
