1️⃣1️⃣ Carburetor heat

Carburetor heat uses hot air drawn from the heat exchanger to raise the temperature in the carburetor venturi section high enough to prevent or remove any ice build-up. 🌡️

Carburetor icing is caused by the temperature drop in the carburetor, as an effect of fuel v***rization, and the temperature drop associated with the pressure drop in the venturi. If the temperature drops below freezing, water v***r will freeze onto the throttle valve, and other internal surfaces of the carburetor. This can cause engine roughness, drop in RPM and even engine shut down if ice completely blocks the carburetor. ❄️

Carburetor icing likely occurs when the outside air temperature is below 21 °C and the relative humidity is above 80 percent. But it can occur also at much higher temperatures if the humidity is high enough, especially at lower RPM settings (descend) when the throttle butterfly valve position already restricts the venturi opening. ‼️

Because hot air is less dense than cold air, engine power will drop when carburetor heat is used. That is the reason that carburetor heat lever shall be OFF for the take off procedure, when we want to have 100% of engine power available.

Newer fuel injected engines are replacing carburetor equipped engines and the good news is that the fuel injection system is free of carb icing issue 😃💯
