🌍 Friday 27 June marked the end of the three-day conference “Society 5.0 Community – 𝐶𝑜-𝐸𝑥𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝐵𝑒𝑡𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑛 𝐻𝑢𝑚𝑎𝑛 𝐵𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑀𝑎𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝐵𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔”, devoted to the challenges and opportunities of a digitally driven society.

🧠 Three rich, intense and participative days allowed for constructive insights and debates in order to shape the future of sustainable and digital higher education within Society 5.0.

📚 Day 1 opened with welcome remarks from Professors Flavio Corradini and Barbara Re; after Francesco Profumo delivered the keynote “𝐼𝑡’𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑒𝑛𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ 𝑡𝑜 𝑐𝑜𝑒𝑥𝑖𝑠𝑡. 𝑊𝑒 𝑚𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑐𝑜-𝑒𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑣𝑒,” offering reflections on integrating AI into education.
Then, the programme moved on to two Research-Track sessions and two interactive workshops led by Joanna Morawska & Elias Carayannis and Marc Aeschbacher & Valeria Legena. The first day ended with a presentation by Intelligenza Aumentata S.r.l., sparking a lively exchange between academia and industry.

📅 Day 2 opened with Rocco De Nicola’s keynote, “Security, Resilience and Responsibility in the Digital Age,” followed by parallel tracks: a Research Track on Society 5.0 topics and an Industry Track on “AI in Healthcare for Pets – The Co-Caring Approach” by AI.Tails. Then, four practical workshops explored:
1️⃣ "Opinion Formation, Influence and Diffusion in the Era of Social Media: The Case of Climate Change"
2️⃣ "A Design Thinking Approach to Advancing Smart and Sustainable Higher Education" facilitated by Raluca Mihaela Bârsan, Angela Hernandez Mendieta, María Jesús Cardoso Moreno & Saša B.. The workshop drawn on concrete results from the Erasmus+ KA2 GRIT_project
3️⃣ "Digital Technologies for Smart and Sustainable Buildings in Society 5.0"
4️⃣ "Educational Tools for Promoting the Mediterranean Diet: The PRIMA Tool4MedLife Initiative"

📅 Day 3 opened with Agnis Stibe’s keynote, “Reuniting Human Artificial Intelligence for Hyper-Performance.” Two parallel research sessions focused on innovation ecosystems, showcasing papers linked to the VITALITY project - a hub of forward-thinking research and collaboration.

🌍 Society 5.0 Community: one week to go!
We’re just a few days away from the 5th edition of the International Conference “𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝟓.𝟎 – 𝐂𝐨-𝐄𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠”, hosted by the Università di Camerino — a core partner of the GRIT_project.

💡 The event will feature the participation of project partners and will also involve a wide network of renowned European universities and research institutions, all working together to advance intelligent tutoring systems that make higher education more sustainable and innovative.

Instead of a traditional presentation, this workshop will be conducted using an innovative and engaging format that blends interactive and experiential learning methods. The session will include:
● Presentation of best practice and game-changing strategies from Erasmus+ K2 initiatives;
● Lightning Talks: Short, impactful presentations by project representatives to highlight key insights and challenges;
● Fishbowl Discussions: A rotating panel format where all participants have an opportunity to contribute to the dialogue;
● Networking and Speed Date Collaboration: Structured networking exercises designed to pair participants in quick, focused discussions to identify synergies and foster future collaborations.

🚩 Here we are, back home from Slovenia, ready to tell you all about the Plenary Meeting that took place in the 26th and 27th of November.

📌 The focus of the event was the ESCAPE4CHALLENGES initiative, which aims to develop a virtual escape room game designed to improve perseverance, problem-solving skills and tolerance for frustration among PhD students.
 
🎮 After a brief summary of the project logical framework and goals, the consortium tested the virtual escape room with the help of a group of PhD’s students and shared feedback collected by the students. Moving from the fact that the escape room is designed to challenge players with nonlinear scenarios, it has been reported from the brainstorming session among students that the integration of tools like Telegram for game interactions and data access generated navigation issues, bugs and unclear instructions; these factors has created a high level of frustration among players, but it encouraged teamwork and perseverance, that are some of the game Learning Objectives.
 
➡️ The next Steps now are: 
- Fix bugs and refine the game based on feedback;
- Conduct pilot actions involving 240 students across six national pilot sessions;
- Develop a grit measurement scale using the game data;
- Create a dissemination tracker to document project activities;
Future meetings and events include sessions in Larissa (Feb 2025) and Vilnius (April 2025).

📍 We’ve reached the end of our journey through the GRIT handbook! We’ve shared the reasons why the team embarked on developing a new GRIT model, one that values soft skills by combining technical expertise, personal attitude, and new perspectives from digital tools. We’ve also reviewed our conclusions.

👥 Chapter by chapter, we took the opportunity to introduce our project partners. But we’re not done with introductions just yet!
 
➡️ Today, we have the pleasure to introduce a key member of the GRIT team: ACEEU (Accreditation for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities). ACEEU is an international quality assurance body dedicated to promoting higher education by helping universities transform towards a more entrepreneurial and engaged approach.

⚙️ Throughout the project, from the handbook creation to every activity, ACEEU has continuously supported GRIT’s communication and management efforts. They’ve leveraged their extensive European and global network to ensure the project’s results reach the right people, making a lasting impact and raising awareness on GRIT’s core themes. ACEEU manages also the Quality Team, overseeing the progress of all project activities and evaluating the outcomes.
 
📌 The internal point of contact at ACEEU is Dr. Angela Hernandez Mendieta, International Project Officer, who manages Erasmus+ projects and coordinates the writing of proposals to secure funding. Angela also actively designs communication and business development strategies to integrate ACEEU units and maximize the impact of the projects.

Chapter 4️⃣ of the handbook was co-coordinated by , bringing a sociological perspective thanks to the university’s expertise in this field.

💡 Led by Erika Vaiginiene, an Associate Professor and Head of the Strategic Management Office, Vilnius University leveraged her knowledge in qualitative and quantitative research management, as well as her expertise in foresight methodologies. The university conducted a sociological and psychological study to develop practical tools (handbook, toolkit, framework and guidelines) to foster a GRIT mindset, validating the design of the game’s training path.

🔍 A thorough sociological analysis helps understand group dynamics, social interactions, and cultural contexts that can either limit or encourage the adoption of a GRIT-based approach. A psychological investigation evaluates intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, emotional responses, and cognitive processes of users, ensuring the game is designed to be engaging, educational, and aligned with the identified objectives.

🏛️ Vilnius University’s studies are grounded in international-level research, with staff involved in numerous national and international initiatives since 1999. Currently, various academic and administrative units of the university participate in 48 projects as partners or coordinators under the Erasmus+ programme. The university has signed over 160 bilateral cooperation agreements and 836 Erasmus+ cooperation agreements to enhance academic exchange and foster international collaboration in research and education.

💡Developing socio-relational skills is crucial, and universities play a key role in fostering these abilities among students and researchers.

🙏 These skills are crucial for transferring knowledge beyond academic boundaries and creating quality relationships based on cooperation.

✅ As the project leader, UNICAM has expanded its focus to include the Third Mission, a key area of policy in recent years.
 
🌐 The Department of Computer Science at UNICAM has contributed significantly to local communities with research on eLearning strategies, digital security, cybersecurity, edutainment, augmented reality (AR), AI in education and learning, telemedicine, local development, mobility, and cultural heritage.
 
⚙️ UNICAM is involved in numerous international projects under H2020, Erasmus Plus, Life, Interreg, and the national PRIN research program. The Department also participates in various regional projects funded by European structural funds, collaborating with schools and non-profits to support young people in sustainable, smart, and inclusive growth and career preparation.

Recent years have seen massive changes: tech advancements, workforce shifts, urbanization, economic turbulence, climate and health crises, and wars.
