🇸🇮 First-round admissions statistics: what the numbers reveal about the University of Ljubljana in 2026 📊

The first application round for Slovenian universities has officially closed, and the latest data from the University of Ljubljana clearly shows one thing: interest in higher education in Slovenia continues to grow.

A total of 9,824 applications were submitted for 9,569 available places — almost all for full-time study programs.

⚡️These numbers already shape the reality for students applying in the second round. The most competitive programs are filling up fast, and demand among non-EU applicants has increased significantly.

This year, non-EU candidates submitted 3,173 applications for only 943 allocated places — a major increase compared to last year’s 2,000 applications.

At the same time, there will be no second-round bachelor admissions for international students at the University of Ljubljana. For non-EU applicants, the only remaining opportunity this year is applying to master’s programs.

Here are some of the most competitive faculties so far:

🩺 Medicine — 467 applications for 240 full-time places
💻 Faculty of Computer and Information Science — 217 applications for 15 full-time places
🏗 Architecture — 127 applications for 20 full-time places
📈 School of Economics and Business — 913 applications for 80 full-time places

At the same time, some well-known programs still have unfilled places.

The competition level for key study programs is now becoming much clearer, making it easier for applicants to make informed decisions about universities and majors.

👉 Book a consultation to understand the admission requirements, choose the right university and program, and maximize your chances of getting accepted during the second round.

The first 2026 admission round brought an important change: universities in Slovenia now require a mandatory interview for admission to both Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. This applies to applicants from countries that need a visa to enter Slovenia.

Some faculties conducted interviews in English, while certain programs required them strictly in Slovenian.
All 2TM applicants from the first intake successfully passed this stage. 🎉

We sincerely congratulate all applicants who rose to the challenge and proved to themselves that they can handle it. And for those who needed extra support with Slovenian, our courses provided a strong and reliable foundation throughout the process.

Interviews are becoming an essential part of the admissions journey for many applicants, and we’re proud that those who choose 2TM handle this step with confidence and success! 📚

🎉 Labour Day in Slovenia and your path to residency
In Slovenia, this holiday lasts for two full days — May 1st and 2nd are official public holidays 🇸🇮

We congratulate everyone who works hard and would like to remind you that employment-based immigration to Slovenia is one of the most realistic ways to obtain a residence permit. If you're considering a move, take a look at three proven options.

1️⃣ Employment with a Slovenian company
The most classic and straightforward path: you sign an employment contract with an employer and apply for a single permit for residence and work through the Employment Service and administrative authorities in Slovenia 📋

2️⃣ Starting your own company
Obtaining a residence permit through business in Slovenia is possible on two grounds:
— employment in your own company based on a higher education diploma
— or proving business activity through one of the following:
• investment starting from €50,000
• hiring a local employee for at least 6 months
• monthly turnover of €10,000 or more

3️⃣ EU Blue Card for professionals
Suitable for highly qualified candidates with education and experience. Benefits include:
✅ priority application processing
✅ возможность подать на первый ВНЖ уже находясь в Словении
✅ fast family reunification

Vedeti vs Znati — what’s the difference?

If you’ve been learning Slovenian for a while, you’ve probably come across these two verbs: vedeti and znati. Many learners use them as synonyms, but in Slovenian each has a clear and distinct role. Let’s break it down once and for all — it’s easier than it seems.

🔹 vedeti — used when you know information
Vem odgovor. — I know the answer.
Veš, kje je? — Do you know where it is?

🔹 znati — used when you know how to do something
Znam plavati. — I can swim.
Znaš voziti avto? — Can you drive?

A simple hack that will save you:
Ask yourself — do you know a fact or know how to do something?
💡 know a fact → vedeti
💡 know how to do → znati
🚫 Vem plavati — incorrect
✅ Znam plavati — correct!

Save this post — and no more confusion 👌
Have you mixed up these two before? Let us know in the comments 👇
