Thank you everyone for a wonderful evening on Kavč festival 2025 🛋️✨ we enjoyed music from Zhlehtet and Vita Kobal + Ivo Švigelj, who both took us on magical musical journeys on our hilltop home. Many thanks to the bands, our friends and volunteers who made the event happen, our guests and of course the Kavč team 🧸 see you next year 💚✨

🪐🎷 Zlehtet 🎷🪐

Zhlehtet is a musical collective led by pianist and composer Rok Zalokar. It appears in different formats and combines the dimensions of acoustic and electronic sound, contemporary music with folklore. Rooted in the tradition of spiritual jazz, it remains faithful to the message of the moment and to mutual understanding.

We are very happy to be hosting the Kavč Festival again this year! First stop - to introduce the folkers who will be opening the stage on Friday, 31 January...

🎻🪗 Vita Kobal and Ivo Švigelj 🪗🎻

Vita and Ivo perform original music that alternates between energetic, rhythmically and harmonically charged pieces and dreamy, calm, perhaps even meditative spots - that at times even lead to experimental escapes. Violin and accordion intertwine, at times even getting lost in (dis)harmony, and then finding each other again in harmonious melody. In between, there is room for improvisation, bringing with it elements of the unexpected.

We are psyched to be hosting and at for a thoroughly folky evening 🎻🍃✨

It will take place on 23rd March at our usual location in Ponoviče, which if you don't already know where it is, you need to go and register for free tickets to the event on www.kavcfestival.si to find out 🥸

The evening timeline will go like this...

17:30 doors to the toplar swing open
18:00 Izpod korenin sing us spicy Slavic sweetness
19:00 NOREIA whisk us away to Celtic fantasy land

🌚 Izpod korenin 🌚

The duo Izpod korenin, composed of Metka Knap and Rok Drofenik, through their exploration of the music and the land of the inhabitants of the Balkans and further east, want to evoke in their vocal duet the memory of the times when man still lived in harmony with the cycles of nature. With their primitive interpretation and instruments, they strive for authentic performance and try to avoid falling into the abyss of post-industrial musical monoculture.

🌿 NOREIA 🌿

After 4 years since the release of Viže and two project "live" albums (Robert Burns' Kilt - 2022 and Nova Keltika - 2023), the local ethno band Noreia is back with a fresh musical product! SETEV represents a new creative wind in the group's development and opens the door wide for crossing over. From sadness to joy, from madness to inner peace, through epic fantasy landscapes to magic in the flames of the hearth. This time Noreia brings her music back to the place where it was born. It was at the concert venue that the band spent their last creative meetings before going into the studio.

🌊🌊 hrupomorje: lineup ✨

𝕤𝟘𝕟𝟞𝟞𝟟 (read: sneg sedem), an experimental project by the members of the Velenje-based black metal band Snøgg, involving sonic fantasising on two turntables and a mountain of guitar effects.

💃 Cumbiando closed Tune In for us with a Cumbia party 💃

The band are newly formed, from a collective of Latin American and Slovenian musicians and music lovers, who came together over their shared passion for Cumbia.

They got us dancing and playing along in an interactive performance of some classic Cumbia songs and more musical intrigues.

➡️ The band is made up of Guillermo Escalante, Javier Betanzos, Juan Ache, Camilo Acosta Mendoza, Carol Gutierrez and Lona Viktoria. They are currently working on developing their repertoire and will plan more concerts soon in the future.

⚡️ Jaka Berger introduced his installation 'In_Dependences' for us on Day 3 of Tune In ⚡️

Jaka is one of the most active, creative and versatile drummers, composers and improvisers on the Slovenian music scene. Since 2006, he as been releasing albums solo and collaboratively, from a variety of genres, thematics and compositional approaches. His various current ventures include electronic acts Darla Smoking and DUF as well as multiple free jazz constellations and sound installation projects.

The installation 'In_Dependences' is a live duo with nature wherein environmental sounds are captured and processed through effects and samplers before being played back through multiple speakers in surround sound. Jaka gave us a privileged insight into his setup and how he creates his music through it.

💭 "I learned how important your energy is [as a facilitator] in creating a good energy and space in the group, and that doing solos with each person really brings out the joy and better energy."

Mamourou Sanou presented his 'Afro Djembe' workshop for us on Sunday 16 April.

We learned new rhythms, new songs and better techniques for playing djembe.

💭 "It was something new for me. I knew that plants or trees generated sound. but I didn't know how I could hear them, until I did this workshop."

Lavoslava Benčić presented her workshop 'Getting to Know MIDI Plants' for us on Sunday 16 April.

We got to try out using a Playtron kit to make a musical keyboard out of plants. The plants were connected to a circuit board, which was then linked up with an online synth - though touching the plants, and therefore making and breaking electrical circuits, we could play the synthesiser.
