Northbrooks Secondary School Our school motto, Soaring Yet Rooted, challenges our students to SOAR to greater heights whilst staying ROOTED in strong values.
We aim for all students to strive for their very best in whatever they do and always be grateful to the people who have helped them in their journey. Northbrooks’name in Chinese, 思源中学, is derived from the Yuan Dynasty proverb ‘yin shui si yuan’ (饮水思源) - to always remember the roots and be grateful to their family, teachers, friends and country for the successes achieved in life. Our school vision
is Every Brooksian a Champion, Impacting the Community. We foster in every Brooksian the Champion Learning Mindset, i.e. a mindset with a strong desire to learn and improve and bounce back in the face of adversities. We want to instil in our students this growth mindset, developing grit and resilience that are essential for success in life, especially in this day and age. In turn, our Brooksians will develop the capacity to serve by leading and lead in serving our school, our community and our nation. To stay firmly in our course, our school mission guides us in our everyday efforts to empower Brooksians to develop a passion for learning, strong moral values and a keen sense of duty and community. We aim to imbue in every Brooksian our core values of Graciousness, Integrity, Fortitude, Teamwork, Empathy and Discipline (GIFTED) in their Brooksian education experience. Guided by this core mission, our purpose is to make a conscious effort to design a plethora of deep learning experiences and quality interactions within the school and beyond for our students to explore, and thereby discover and ultimately maximise their potential. To provide a quality academic experience for our students, our teachers deploy appropriate teaching pedagogical approaches and learning strategies in our curriculum to allow students to attain a deeper understanding and better grasp of the discipline. Anchored on GIFTED values, our co-curriculum focuses on the student holistic development in ChAMPS (Character, Aesthetics, Moral, Physical and Social) domains where our students are expected to be fully engaged in the schools activities. Some of these activities such as our Aerospace Programme (Applied Learning Programme) and Adventure.Character.Environment (A.C.E) Outdoor Education Programme (Learning for Life Programme) are specially designed to provide that distinctive and memorable experience for our students. As partners-in-education, our Parents Support Group, School Advisory Committee, Alumni and Community Partners partner us to create that added value for our student educational experiences. In addition, our School Team of caring and dedicated teachers, and administrative and support staff work closely together to deliver our Quality Academic Experience and Quality Programme for ChAMPS. Ultimately, all of us play an integral role in our students’ successes. In this school, we remain steadfast in our beliefs and our conviction in making a positive impact on our Brooksians. Together, our Brooksians will strive to do their very best and stay rooted, serving to lead and leading to serve our community and nation with humility.

📚 How can teenagers discover the joy of reading when entertainment is just a swipe away?
Four of our Secondary 2 Brooksians set out to investigate this question — and discovered that building a reading habit may be simpler than we think!
Their suggestions?
📖 Read with friends
❤️ Choose books you genuinely enjoy
🎧 Read on the go with audiobooks
📱 Replace 15 minutes of scrolling with 15 minutes of reading
🌙 Make reading part of your bedtime routine
🏆 Join reading challenges to keep yourself motivated
Along the way, our Brooksians also picked up valuable research skills, which they shared with their fellow students. Their top tips:
🔎 Start with a clear search prompt so you know what you are looking for.
✅ Use reliable sources, such as government and established educational websites.
📝 Keep track of the information and sources you find as you conduct your research.
So, how can we make reading a joyful part of teenagers’ everyday lives — and what did our Brooksians learn about becoming better researchers along the way?

Stories come alive when you get to meet the person who wrote them!
Our Secondary 3G3 Malay Language students had the privilege of meeting Dr Sa'eda Buang, author of Razi, after spending the past few weeks reading, discussing and presenting their insights on the short story in groups.
Through an engaging dialogue, students explored the complex themes of empathy, family, sacrifice and the difficult choices faced by Razi's mother, Nani. More importantly, they had the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions and gain a deeper appreciation of the writing process.
One of the biggest takeaways from Dr Sa'eda's sharing was her 4Ps of writing:
📝 Pengkajian (Research)
👀 Pemerhatian (Observation)
💭 Perenungan (Reflection)
✍️ Penulisan (Writing)
Thank you, Dr Sa'eda, for an inspiring and thought-provoking session that reminded our students that every meaningful story begins with curiosity, empathy and reflection. Thank you Mr. Herman NLB Singapore for sharing with us initiatives available at NLB for Brooksians to explore. We hope this experience encourages our Brooksians to continue reading deeply, thinking critically and discovering the power of stories.

STUDENTS vs. TEACHERS!
It's a face-off! In conjunction with Racial Harmony Day, we put Brooksians, both students and teachers, to the test as they test their knowledge of the different cultural practices in Singapore. Looks like Brooksians 'know ball', huh? Did YOU get to guess all the questions right? 🤭
