“Doctor” can mean many things — and today, our students got to hear the stories behind each pathway. 🧬🩺

A huge thank you to our 4 RP alumni — Matthew, Navin, Luqman, and Roy — from Diploma in Biomedical Science () and Pharmaceutical Science (.dphm), together with 2 students from different institutions, all on their own journeys towards becoming doctors in their own ways — through NUS Medicine, Dentistry, and PhD programmes.

Through Doctor vs Doctorate, they shared their experiences, challenges, and insights, giving our students a clearer glimpse into the different pathways within healthcare, research, and academia💡

Offered places to study Medicine at both National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Lee Jie Ting (Jorene) graduates from RP with one of its highest honours — The Ngee Ann Kongsi Most Distinguished Graduate of the Year. A testament to just how far she has come, her journey at RP was about more than academic success — it was where she grew, led, and made a meaningful impact.

Inspired by her Biology teacher at Nan Hua High School, Jorene set her sights on RP's Diploma in Biomedical Science, specialising in the Medical Technology track. Beyond graduating with a perfect GPA, she also made her mark well outside the classroom.

As President of the MAVEN Interest Group, she led initiatives to raise awareness of biomedical sciences and human health — from hands-on workshops like dissection sessions to outreach and service-learning projects that gave back to the community.

She also represented the school at the NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine Anatomy Challenge and was invited by Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) to attend the Global Young Scientist Summit 2026, where she connected with researchers and explored the future of healthcare innovation.

Service has always been close to her heart. As a Peer Supporter, Jorene went the extra mile to guide juniors through academic and personal challenges alike. Her efforts earned her the Make A Difference (M.A.D) Service-Learning Leader Award in 2025, reflecting her belief that real impact is built through small, consistent acts of care.

For her Final Year Project with A*STAR's Institute for Human Development and Potential, Jorene researched how a periconceptional nutritional intervention shaped child health outcomes, handling hundreds of samples and contributing to work with real clinical relevance.

Completing the individual FYP report was one of the most defining moments of her time at RP. "I remember how frustrated I used to feel when experiments didn't work," she shares. "But over time, that frustration turned into curiosity — I started questioning what went wrong and how to do better. Writing the report made me realise how much I had grown, not just in skills, but in the way I think and approach challenges."

She was later invited to present her findings at the Young Scientist Symposium 2026.

Driven by a passion to make a difference in healthcare, Jorene hopes to pursue a degree and continue her journey in medical research or clinical practice.

“RP has solidified my passion for the conservation work I do,” says Sam Pei Yi, a graduate and valedictorian from the Diploma in Environmental and Marine Science (DEMS). “The research and volunteering opportunities helped me see beyond my own perspective, and I hope to play my part in Singapore’s conservation story.”

Pei Yi’s passion for sustainability began young. Introduced to recycling and climate change by her parents, she first joined the Green Club at Rulang Primary to learn how to care for plants. Her interest deepened further in Commonwealth Secondary School’s Eco Club, where her curiosity about biodiversity grew and eventually led her to pursue Environmental and Marine Science at RP through the Early Admissions Exercise (EAE).

At RP, Pei Yi found meaningful opportunities to turn her passion into action. She represented RP in a public outreach event organised by WWF-Singapore, where she helped raise awareness about marine conservation. Her growing interest in native horseshoe crab species later inspired her Final Year Project, where she conducted research for the Conservation of Coastal Horseshoe Crabs in partnership with Singapore Oceanarium, with funding support from the Mandai Wildlife Fund.

Beyond research, Pei Yi actively championed sustainability on campus and in the community. As President of the Conservation Interest Group at RP, she oversaw an RP-wide clothes collection drive to redistribute pre-loved clothing to underprivileged communities. She also served as student coordinator for Green Bootcamp @ North West 2024, helping organise the event for IHL participants to develop solutions around food sustainability and textile waste in Singapore.

Her commitment to service extends beyond school too. Pei Yi volunteered at initiatives such as Yuhua Youth Network’s Food Rescues and Willing Hearts Kitchen, where she helped redistribute and prepare food for underserved communities. She also led a “Sustainability Quest” for seniors, combining environmental education with meaningful community engagement.

For her passion and dedication to both environmental sustainability and community service, Pei Yi has been awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Award for Mathematics and Science for making a on the environment and community. 🌱💚

Day 3 of the RP Graduation Ceremony carried a special kind of across our campus. Maybe it was the cheers echoing a little louder through the hallways, or the proud smiles that never seemed to leave the faces of families and friends. Maybe it was simply the feeling of seeing another group of graduates realise, at last, just how far they have come.

We celebrated the graduating cohorts from Republic Polytechnic School of Applied Science - RP SAS and Republic Polytechnic School of Business - RP SBZ- two very different disciplines, but connected by the same curiosity, determination, and courage to keep asking questions about the world around them.

Some spent their years at RP studying cells, systems, and the science that quietly shapes everyday life. Others immersed themselves in the rhythms of business, people, ideas, and the possibilities hidden behind every challenge and opportunity. Different journeys, different ambitions, but the same drive to learn, grow, and discover their .

As the ceremonies unfolded, it became clear once again that graduation is never just about the moment someone crosses the stage. It is about everything that came before it- the early mornings, the long nights, the stressful submissions, the group projects, the setbacks that tested patience, and the quiet determination to keep going anyway. So much of that effort often goes unseen, but today, every round of applause in the hall carried the weight of those stories.

To our graduates from SAS and SBZ, the world ahead will continue to change in ways none of us can fully predict. But if your time at RP has shown anything, it is that you already know how to adapt, collaborate, persevere, and keep learning. Those lessons will stay with you long after graduation day ends. For Faiq Faran, affectionately known as “Mr. 3.82” among his peers, success at RP was never just about grades. From excelling in Pharmaceutical Science to giving back through community service, his journey reflects both purpose and passion — qualities that earned him the Board of Governors Award for Most Outstanding Graduate of the Year.

Faiq's love for science was nurtured by his father, who studied Veterinary Science. During the COVID-19 pandemic, witnessing how science directly shaped people's health and well-being inspired him to choose RP as his first-choice polytechnic through Republic Polytechnic Polytechnic Foundation Programme- RP PFP and pursue Pharmaceutical Science at Republic Polytechnic School of Applied Science - RP SAS.

Awarded the PFP Scholarship in 2022, Faiq went on to earn a place on the Director's Roll of Honour from 2023 to 2025, and also received the Edusave Skills Award and the SAS Higher Year Scholarship.

Beyond academics, Faiq has also been actively involved in causes that uplift underserved communities. He played a key role in organising initiatives such as the Heart to Heart Event, a Hari Raya celebration for visually impaired participants held in partnership with the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH).

He also served as a befriender to children from the Cerebral Palsy Alliance School (CPAS) during an overseas service-learning trip to Melbourne.

“Through the overseas trip, I learnt that helping others doesn't just change their lives — it transforms ours as well,” Faiq shares. “Together with my buddy Kenneth, we overcame our fear of heights. On the last day, he cried as he called me his 'big brother' and his first friend outside of school.”

For his contributions to community building, Faiq received the NYAA Gold Award and was conferred the title of Youth Leader by Youth Corps Singapore.

💚 Faiq has received offers from Imperial College London, King’s College London, University College London, and the University of Edinburgh to further his studies. We look forward to seeing him continue to grow and make a meaningful impact on society.
