What happens when engine oil is in excess in a diesel engine?
As with any engine, too much will cause the crank to beat air into it, possibly causing oil starvation in the main and big-end bearings.
Specifically for a diesel, however, excess oil in the crankcase can cause it to be forced up past the piston rings and into the combustion chamber. In a SI engine, this simply generates, smoke and might foul the spark plugs.
In a diesel, however, this oil becomes an uncontrolled auxiliary fuel supply.
This extra fuel can cause the engine to accelerate to the point of mechanical failure - even if there is no diesel, and there is no way to shut it down unless you can block the air intake - which is easier said than done in most installations.
Don't overfill your diesel engine with oil!!

Can your car run without engine oil? To a certain measure, it can!

When the engine oil is depleted, your engine will normally seize-up after about 3 minutes of running. You should be able to get a low oil level indicator light, or a low oil pressure light well before you run out of engine oil and get yourself stranded in the middle of a busy expressway.
