They cannot read it yet. But they are betting on a future where quantum computers can, turning todayโs stolen data into tomorrowโs jackpot. This is the โ๐๐๐ง๐ซ๐๐จ๐ฉ ๐ฃ๐ค๐ฌ, ๐๐๐๐ง๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฉ ๐ก๐๐ฉ๐๐งโ threat. It is no longer science fiction. It is a silent risk already in motion.
As advances in quantum computing accelerate, the race is on to develop quantum-resistant cryptography and security systems agile enough to evolve with emerging threats. The challenge is not just technical, but strategic: how do organisations prepare today for risks that may only fully materialise years from now?
Join us for a timely panel discussion featuring Professor Robert Deng, Edwin Lim, and Wai Tuck Wong (BSc IS 2019), moderated by Dr Tan Mei Hui (LLM 2024), as they unpack what meaningful action looks like now, from cryptographic agility and migration strategies to governance, risk management, and long-term resilience.
Because the window to act is not when quantum computing arrives. It is today.

That question anchored the latest Mr Edmund Lin (Board of Trustees, SMU; Chairman of Southeast Asia, Bain & Company) delivered a keynote on navigating a post-globalised world, followed by a candid fireside conversation with Ms Shyn Yee Ho-Strangas (BBM 2004).
A few things that stayed with the room:
๐น The world is no longer "flat." Strategy today means working across fault lines.
๐น In uncertainty, the strongest leaders don't hedge everything. They make fewer, bigger bets with conviction.
๐น On AI: What separates leaders is the willingness to rethink how work gets done. Most organisations are already exposed to GenAI through automation or augmentation. The technology is not the hard part. Mindset and culture are.
๐น Some things are enduring and don't shift with the macro. Trust and leadership responsibility remain constants, regardless of how the systems around them change.
The discussion also touched on sovereign capabilities and what responsibility looks like for leaders in a more fragmented world.
This session was hosted by Terence Quek (MCM 2013), Chairperson of the ๐ฆ๐ ๐จ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐

Across five cities and two dates, the SMU alumni community in India came together for a series of city-based gatherings on 26 April and 2 May.
On 26 April, simultaneous gatherings were held in Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, bringing alumni together to reconnect over shared SMU experiences and exchange updates on their personal and professional journeys. This was followed by a Kolkata gathering on 2 May.
Together, these reunions reflect the growing strength and vibrancy of the SMU alumni network in India, and our alumni's collective enthusiasm to stay connected.
And to our wider alumni community, comment and let us know which city and country you're calling home these days!
to the mothers and maternal figures in our SMU alumni community. ๐ธโจ
Today, we celebrate your strength, guidance, and the many roles you play in our lives and professions. We hope your day is filled with warmth, joy, and well-deserved appreciation.
Wishing you a beautiful day ahead. ๐ท๐ค
