Have you ever had a great idea at work, only for it to go nowhere? Innovation is not just about having good ideas. It is also about creating the right environment for people to experiment, learn from what does not work and turn ideas into meaningful improvements.

In SIM Academy’s webinar on Systems Thinking for Innovation and Change, Mr Thomas Lim, Dean of SIM Academy’s Centre for Systems Leadership, explored how organisations can make innovation a more consistent part of the way they work. From having the confidence to experiment to creating simple ways to share and build on what works, small changes in how we work can help good ideas go further. Ever feel like something at work is not working, but you are not quite sure what the problem is? Sometimes, the issue is not about people not working hard enough. It could be how roles, responsibilities and ways of working are designed.

At SIM Academy's recent Organisation Design: Accountable Work Systems Design & Optimisation course, participants explored how to better understand the systems behind common workplace challenges, from cross-team friction and unclear accountabilities to talented people struggling to meet expectations.

One participant shared that she had long felt that something was not working in her organisation but struggled to put her finger on what it was. Through the course, she gained a structured framework and shared language to better understand the issue and identify possible changes.

Sometimes, gaining clarity is the first step towards making work work better. Learn more about SIM Academy's Organisation Design: Accountable Work Systems Design & Optimisation course at https://ow.ly/Zypq50ZGnHE.

Ever feel like getting work done is harder than it should be? Maybe responsibilities are not always clear, decisions take too long, or getting different teams on the same page feels like a challenge. Sometimes, the issue is not about individual performance. It could be how roles, responsibilities and ways of working are designed.

At SIM Academy’s recent Breakfast Briefing, “Designing Organisation and Building Sustainable Systemic Structure for Success”, leaders explored how organisation design can shape the way people collaborate, make decisions and get work done. The discussion also touched on how stretch assignments and meaningful conversations can support professional growth and why, even as AI helps us work faster and make sense of information, people still need to take ownership of important decisions.

For many SME leaders, the question is no longer what AI can do, but where it can create meaningful value for their business. That was the focus of SIM Academy’s AI Discovery Workshop, held on 29 July in collaboration with CapitaLand and Singtel, which brought together more than 130 retail and SME leaders.

Moving beyond technical theory, the session focused on the operational challenges leaders face every day and where AI can realistically help address them. Participants left with practical strategies to identify quick-win opportunities for immediate adoption, exposure to real-world AI applications built for retail and SME operations, and fresh perspectives from peer discussions with other business leaders navigating the same questions.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the conversations. If you are ready to take the next step in your AI journey, AI.dea can help your organisation build the right capabilities. Find out more about the programme and upcoming runs at https://ow.ly/6yNk50ZC8fN.

"Have the courage to stay curious.” Those were the words of advice shared by SIM Academy CEO Mr Ho Seong Kim during a recent panel discussion with Singapore FinTech Youth Chapter.

As AI continues to change the way we work, the conversation highlighted an important reminder: while technical skills are essential, qualities like curiosity, adaptability, empathy and continuous learning will help people thrive in the future.

It was encouraging to see students actively asking thoughtful questions and engaging with industry leaders on what it takes to succeed in a rapidly evolving world.

Thank you to Singapore FinTech Youth Chapter for organising this meaningful discussion. We look forward to more conversations that inspire lifelong learning.
