Residential College 4 (RC4) is the third residential college in NUS University Town to offer the Uni It is fully operational from AY2015–2016.

RC4 is the third residential college in UTown to offer the University Town College Programme (UTCP).

🎉 Residential College 4 (RC4) is honoured to receive a Partner Award at SG Cares Volunteer Centre @ Queenstown's Partners in Empowerment 2026.

The award recognises RC4’s efforts to create meaningful intergenerational connections through two courses on "Rethinking Ageing", facilitated by Associate Professor Lynette Tan.

Through these courses, students learn about service learning and intergenerational bonding, challenge stereotypes surrounding ageism, and co-create activities with community members that foster greater understanding and social cohesion.

We are grateful to SG Cares Volunteer Centre @ Queenstown and our community partners, and look forward to creating more meaningful connections and impact together! 🤝

We’re proud to share that Residential College 4 has received the Flag Gold Award at NUSSU Rag & Flag 2026! 🎉

This achievement celebrates the dedication, teamwork and generosity of our students, who came together to support a university-wide fundraising effort for Community Chest-supported programmes.

This year, RC4 partnered with Care Corner Singapore, supporting their work to provide social, healthcare and mental health services for children, youths, families and seniors in need.

💙 Together, RC4 students raised over S$15,000 through various fundraising platforms!

A huge thank you to the RC4 Flag 2026 Organising Committee and the dedicated student volunteers for making this possible. 🐋

Resident College 4 is delighted to welcome our new fellows, Assoc. Prof. Hugh Mason and Assoc. Prof. Jan Mrázek.

Assoc. Prof. Hugh Mason is a veteran entrepreneur, investor, and educator with over 30 years of experience building ventures and advancing innovation across sectors. He has co-founded organisations including Narrateo, Pembridge Partners, and JFDI.Asia, and has taught at NUS, NTU, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and Duke-NUS Medical School, bringing deep practical insight into entrepreneurship, startup development, and innovation-led learning.

Assoc. Prof. Jan Mrázek from the NUS Department of Southeast Asian Studies is an expert in Southeast Asian arts, particularly Javanese shadow puppet theatre and Javanese and Balinese music. A founding director of the NUS Singa Nglaras Gamelan Ensemble, he also explores the intersections of traditional performing arts, modern media, and travel writing, while bringing a creative and experiential approach to teaching.

🎉 The RC4 Pitching Competition 2026 was a celebration of bold ideas and student entrepreneurship. Held on 8 April 2026, the competition gave RC4 students the opportunity to test their ideas, sharpen their pitches, and explore what it takes to turn a concept into reality.

�Congratulations to our winning teams:
🏆 Team Framed - an AI-powered automation platform transforming the photobook market by turning digital photo “dumps” into professionally curated physical memory zines through a seamless, one-click workflow.

🏆 Team Outlyne - a low-cost automated line-judging system for racket sports such as badminton, designed to improve the accuracy and fairness of line calls.

🏆 Team PrecisionMaths — an AI-powered platform that enables tuition centres and teachers in Singapore to generate customised Mathematics worksheets efficiently.

🏆 Team LiftAgain - a gamified rehabilitation app designed to transform athletic recovery for Gen Z athletes through engaging, game-based experiences.

🏆 Team Aethra - a two-sided marketplace enabling AI agents to programmatically hire verified human workers for physical, real-world tasks via API or MCP protocol.

We also want to celebrate all participating teams. Your passion, teamwork, and willingness to tackle meaningful challenges embody the spirit of innovation that RC4 is proud to nurture.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners at BLOCK71, as well as our esteemed judges and mentors, for making this competition possible and for their continued support of entrepreneurship within the RC4 community.

The seed funding will serve as a catalyst for the winning teams to further develop their ideas into impactful ventures. We are excited to see how these promising innovations continue to grow in the months ahead!

The RC4 community mourns the passing of Professor John Martin Richardson Jr, former Visiting Professor, Adjunct Professor and Resident Fellow at RC4, who passed away at the age of 87, on 21 February 2026 at 5am Singapore time in Safety Harbor, Florida, USA, surrounded by family.

Professor Richardson's contributions in the areas of research, teaching, public policy consulting and academic administration draw upon a diverse background that includes political science, anthropology, economics, and mathematics.

From 2017 to 2018, he served as Adjunct Professor and Resident Fellow at RC4, contributing meaningfully to the college’s academic and residential life. He also held concurrent appointments at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and as a fellow at the Temasek Defence Systems Institute.

Prior to joining NUS, Professor Richardson taught at Case Western Reserve University and spent three decades at American University, where he became Professor Emeritus in 2012. His contributions were widely recognised, including the Society for Computer Simulation’s recognition as one of the “Twenty Most Effective Decision-Makers in the World” in 1982, the Balaton Group’s “Member of the Year” in 2012, and the System Dynamics Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, among other awards for program development and service to the higher education community.

We remember Professor Richardson with deep gratitude; he will be greatly missed by his students and colleagues.

In October, RC4 hosted a four-day Woodcarving & Printmaking Workshop led by 2024 Young Artist Award winner, Zhang Fuming. Students from different disciplines came together to experience the tactile, meditative process of working with wood and ink. 🎨�

Across the sessions, participants learned to sketch and carve designs, embrace imperfection, and inked their final pieces by hand. The culminating question of “What Does RC4 Mean to You?” sparked a gallery of unique black-and-white prints that will soon be displayed on the walls of the college for all residents to view. From architectural silhouettes to symbolic motifs, the artworks captured the heart of the RC4 experience! ✨�

From Telegram bots to track interest group attendance 📲, to edible gardening spaces 🌱, to imaginative puppet showcases 🎭 — RC4 students are showing that meaningful impact comes in many forms.

This semester, over 40 senior retention students enrolled in RC4’s new course, UTC3700: Senior Projects, translating their interests in technology, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and leadership into projects with lasting impact on the residential experience.

What’s most inspiring is the heart behind their work: every project addresses a real need and contributes to the evolving life of the College for the next generation of students!

RC4 Inter-House Games 2025 was filled with remarkable comebacks - from Draco's rise to the top, Aquila’s badminton comeback, Ursa’s basketball battle, Noctua’s E-sports climb, and Leo’s clutch table tennis win. Every house claimed a redemption arc of its own.

"Again and again, teams proved that no setback is final, and that in RC4, no match is truly over until the final whistle blows," RC4 student Sarah Tan writes in her story that captures IHG’s spirit of resilience, teamwork, and passion.
