Breakthrough Fluorescent Nanosensor Achieves Fast, Novel Detection of 04/06/2026

Advancing healthcare starts with connecting discovery to care.

Researchers and clinicians from NUHS, including National University Hospital - NUH and NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, together with partners from National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NIE NTU, Singapore) and the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART), have developed a fluorescent nanosensor capable of rapidly detecting indole-3-propionic acid (IPA), an emerging biomarker linked to gut health and disease.

This breakthrough underscores the value of bringing together clinical expertise and research to develop innovations that could enhance disease understanding and support more personalised care.

At NUHS, every patient journey is shaped by teams of dedicated professionals across acute, primary and community care settings โ€” from clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals to operations, technology and support teams. Together, they bring diverse expertise, perspectives and skills to deliver seamless, person-centred care.

As part of the Team Healthcare campaign, weโ€™re celebrating the many roles that make public healthcare possible and the people who go beyond their individual contributions to achieve better outcomes for patients.
