The National University Health System (NUHS) is an integrated Academic Health System and Regional Health System in Singapore that delivers value-driven, innovative and sustainable healthcare. Throughout the history of our institutions, our staff has worked across the health system to advance the tripartite missions of achieving clinical excellence, developing the

next generation of healthcare professionals, and changing the natural history of chronic diseases through research. At NUHS, we leverage our unique position as an academic health system to tap on the wealth of resources residing within the whole of the National University of Singapore (NUS). Through collaborations with NUS faculties, we are able to draw upon their academic, research and creative capabilities to develop solutions for existing and emerging health and healthcare needs of the Singapore population. As part of our regional health system responsibility, we work in close collaboration with community hospitals, general practitioners, family medicine clinics, nursing homes and other community and social partners to provide integrated care to the community. From 7 to 9 August 2026, nine NUHS staff volunteers participated in a medical mission to Hambantota, Sri Lanka, organised by Tzu Chi Merit SG ๆ…ˆๆตŽๅŠŸๅพทไผš. Working alongside healthcare professionals and volunteers from Singapore, Taiwan and Sri Lanka, they helped deliver essential services to underserved communities through family medicine consultations, oral health treatments, nursing and pharmacy services, and patient operations support.

Through their collective efforts, more than 5,000 patients received support, many of whom face significant barriers to accessing timely healthcare.

For our volunteers, the experience offered valuable insight into the realities faced by communities with limited access to healthcare, reinforcing the importance of empathy, adaptability and teamwork in delivering patient-centred care.

This mission reflects NUHS' commitment to improving health and wellbeing beyond our institutions and national borders. We are grateful to Tzu Chi Merit (Singapore) for bringing together healthcare professionals and volunteers across the region in support of this meaningful effort.

We also thank our volunteers for contributing their time, expertise and compassion, bringing hope and healing to communities in need ๐ŸŒ.

Our researchers at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine have uncovered a potential new way to tackle aggressive breast cancer.

They identified DP103, a molecular โ€œmaster switchโ€ that appears to fuel tumour growth, maintain cancer stem cells and contribute to treatment resistance in triple-negative breast cancer โ€” one of the most difficult forms of breast cancer to treat.

In preclinical studies, a drug targeting DP103 slowed tumour growth, pointing to a potential new treatment approach for this aggressive cancer.

For patients living with complex chronic conditions, the journey to recovery does not end when they leave the hospital. Having the right care and support at home and within the community can make all the difference.

On 16 August 2026, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) signed a collaboration agreement with Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre to strengthen support for high-risk patients in Jurong East through NTFGHโ€™s Care Connect Hub.

Supported by JurongHealth Fund, the hospital-based programme coordinates care for patients with complex needs after discharge. Through this partnership, trained Community Carers from Loving Heart will assist selected patients in the community โ€” identifying health and social needs early, connecting them with appropriate services, and helping them stay well at home.

Over the two-year pilot, the Care Connect Hub aims to reach approximately 1,000 high-risk patients across the western region.

At NUHS, we believe better health goes beyond the care we provide in our hospitals. By working closely with our community partners, we can bring more connected care closer to where people live โ€” empowering them to stay well at home and building healthier, more resilient communities together.
