We partnered with the staff from College Services (CW) to pack food rations for 90 families at Yong En Care Centre today.
Staff from College Services donated several cartons of dried food supplies to Yong En Care Centre. When we arrived, Ms Pauline from Yong End gave us a short introduction to the services by Yong En. We learnt alot about what Yong En does for the community living at Chinatown.
After the introduction, we proceeded to pack food rations for 90 families. We set up a simple "production chain" and packed the rations in less than 30 minutes! After that, we were divided into three teams to visit three households to deliver food rations to them.
One of the families recieved a new TV from a kind donor and we helped to transport the TV to the family.
We had a very enriching experience at Yong En today. It was heartening to see our members collaborating well with staff members from College Services. We left Yong En in high spirits and we are looking forward to such activities in future!

SARAH SAC, Jalan Bukit Merah
A Wheelchair Handling workshop was conducted to train club members on skills to manage wheelchairs safely, correctly and efficiently. We had a fun time learning and practicing!
We were also able to understand and appreciate how a wheelchair user feels when he/she is being pushed by another person. It can be frightening, especially if the person pushing is not confident and careful.
The session was very fruitful. During our tea break, we even brainstormed ideas on where to bring the elderly out for our first Silver Outing and came up with a list of possible locations that will be fun for the elderly. Keep a lookout for our first Silver Outing with SARAH SAC!

Special appearance by God of Fortune. who brought joy and laughter to the elderly as he entertained them with fengshui and zodiac advice.
We also played some simple games with the elderly and they loved the CNY jigsaw puzzles!
Happy New Year to everybody!!

We had a fun art and craft session with the elderly at the centre where were taught them how to make chinese lanterns using ang pows. To do that, we had our own session beforehand where we had to learn how to make the lanterns ourselves first :)
After we made the lanterns, we served the elderly dinner and then we took them for an outing where we had a FunVee open top bus ride to go sight-seeing. The elderly were especially excited when the bus drove along the Chinatown area because of all the beautiful Chinese New Year decorations at Chinatown.
It was a very fun and fulfilling activity!
