One trap in Listening Comprehension is hearing a familiar word and immediately thinking:

"๐“๐ก๐š๐ญ'๐ฌ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ฌ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ."

But the fact that an option was mentioned doesn't make it correct.

The speaker may change his mind, reject an earlier suggestion or clarify what he actually means.

So don't simply listen for words that match the options.

That's why, when reviewing comprehension, I wouldn't only ask:

I'd also ask:

A student who repeatedly makes grammar mistakes may need one checking routine.

A student who loses marks because comprehension answers are incomplete may need another.

That's why I don't think the best checking checklist is identical for every child.

Look at the mistakes that keep appearing.

Then build the checking routine around ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ฌ๐ž ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ค๐ž๐ฌ.

If a child genuinely doesn't know the rule, teach the rule.

But if the child can explain it correctly and still repeatedly gets the question wrong, simply reteaching it may not solve the problem.

The issue may be ๐ž๐ฑ๐ž๐œ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง.

That's why saying โ€œbe more carefulโ€ isn't always useful.

Instead, give the child ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐œ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ข๐œ ๐ญ๐จ ๐š๐œ๐ญ ๐๐ข๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฅ๐ฒ.

As exams approach, don't only ask what your child still needs to learn.

But limited time changes the question.

Instead of asking:

"What else can my child practise?"

I would ask:

Did the student misunderstand the question?

Does he know the concept but struggle to apply it?

Does he know what he wants to say but not how to develop it?

Or was it genuinely a lapse in attention?

All four can produce the same thing on the paper:

However, ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ง'๐ญ ๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐ž๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฌ๐š๐ฆ๐ž ๐œ๐จ๐ซ๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง.

That's why I'm careful about labelling every mistake as "careless".

Before deciding how to fix a mistake, first understand ๐ฐ๐ก๐ฒ ๐ข๐ญ ๐ก๐š๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ž๐ง๐ž๐.
