Last Friday, our Interactors from Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled invited the residents from Bishan Home to a party in our very own school! We bonded over the food, games and dancing and did an arts and craft activity with the residents so that they would be able to bring back with them a memento to remember today’s party!💛

Another event our Interactors took on today was “Grey Can Still Play 2019”, a one-day community service bringing together seniors and Interactors for a day of fun and meaningful interaction. We truly learnt a lot from this experience and were inspired by the fun-loving and participative elders, as they challenged our preconceived perceptions of the elderly. The elderly never cease to amaze us, constantly proving that the Grey, really can still play!

Today morning, our Interactors were busy running 2 interactive booths for YEC’s Story Alive!, a children's English storytelling competition for Primary 1 to 6 students. Our 2 booths, ‘Mind your Language’ and ‘Cycle of Life’ focused on teaching the children how to say simple phrases in different languages and how to correctly identify the life cycles of different animals in fun and engaging ways. Interacting with the enthusiastic, adorable kids helped start the day off on a really high note!

Our annual Valentine's Day Rose sale that we had in school this year was a huge success! The theme of this year’s event was ‘Live Life in Full Bloom’, promoting the idea of sharing and spreading love to everyone in our community, not just our significant others and friends.
The enthusiasm and generosity of the school was so overwhelming, and we managed to sell out all of our flowers in no time! Thank you to all the Interactors who worked tirelessly to prepare for the event, and to all those who bought roses from us.
The funds raised from the event will be donated to St Luke’s Eldercare, one of the 4 beneficiaries that our Interactors serve at weekly.

From the 20th to the 26th of November 2018, our Interactors set of for Bintan, Indonesia for our Interact Overseas Service Learning Programme. The week spent doing service was a meaningful and valuable one for our Interactors as they were challenged to push their boundaries and step outside of their comfort zones.
In many rural areas, waste water from toilets and washing areas is typically released untreated into the environment due to the lack of infrastructure for sewage treatment. This could potentially result in many people falling severely ill from the contaminated water.
Hence, the Interactors worked tirelessly to build Safe Water Gardens (SWG) for two households in the village, providing them a safe and environmentally-friendly system for wastewater treatment. Working in the village, side by side with the locals, was a great opportunity for our Interactors to interact with the locals and immerse themselves in the local culture and way of life, all while improving the lives of the villagers, and the environment in a meaningful and sustainable way.
After finishing the Safe Water Gardens, our Interactors were also presented with an opportunity to teach English to the students of Yayasan An-najah school. After the lessons with the students, we had a celebration for everyone born in the month of November!
Overall, this trip was very enriching and eye-opening, bringing about many fond memories and strong bonds forged between our Interactors. We hope to be back in Indonesia again for next year’s OSLP to continue our service!

As the school term came to a close, so did our most recent project.
During the month of April, which is is Limb Loss Awareness month, CJ's Interact Club's launched a project called: 'Rings to Limbs'.
The aim of the project was to collect as many can tabs as possible to be sent over to Thailand to be sold and used to purchase prosthetic limbs made of these aluminium materials. The combined effort of carrying out the simple act of collecting ring tabs allowed us to improve the lives of others by helping them attain a prosthetic limb that they may otherwise have difficulty obtaining.
To make things more exciting, the ring tabs were collected according to the various houses and points were allocated accordingly.
Our CJCians all put in effort to collect these can tabs and some even donated bags full of can tabs at once!
We would like to thank our teachers in charge, Ms Victoria Er, Mr Dominic Heng, Mr Gabriel Fu, Ms Tan Mei Qi, and Mr Lionel Wang from Lion's Club Singapore, the organization we worked with, and last but definitely not least, the student population for contributing!

During the recent Lent, CJ interact club embarked on a fundraising project for the Compassion Fund to aid in providing financial assistance to the less fortunate. Share-a-meal (SAM) encourages everyone to donate the amount equivalent to what they would spend on one meal into the Share-a-Meal donation tins to support the less fortunate and to spread empathy and compassion at the same time. Furthermore, lent is a period of prayer, fasting and almsgiving, thus SAM was also an avenue for Catholics and all to practice the gift of giving. In preparation, we crafted posters and placed them up around CJ to promote our project. We also designed and decorated boxes to collect money from recycled snack containers and placed them at our canteen storefronts for students to donate conveniently. Additionally, we worked together with the Catholic Activities Wing to set up a donation box at the Lent booth in the foyer. Over the period of a month , CJCians and staff of CJC generously donated an astounding amount of $718.13. With that , we would like to thank all CJC students and staff for the kind giving and may God Bless!
