Once in a while, I'd search up recommended book lists for kiddo's age and shortlist a bunch of titles after reading reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. So I shortlisted about 10 books recently and we found a few of them in Tampines Regional Library! In fact, only one of the titles on my list can't be found in . We're so blessed to have access to excellent collections in public libraries here alhamdulillah!

Besides the English books I wanted her to read, the kiddo was also excited to find a wide range of Warm Hearts comic book series in Malay. I would recommend this series! Each volume is standalone and the stories are touching ones about family and friendships.

Public libraries here have reopened, but we're limited to 30 mins per visit and seating areas are blocked off, so the game here is grab-and-go. I happen to be very good at this because I always look up the call numbers and shelf numbers in advance. ๐Ÿ˜ Kiddo currently has the maximum of 16 books loaned out on her account, which should keep her occupied for awhile before we need to go back.

Ordered this book for the kiddo and was pleasantly surprised when I pulled it out of the package... I don't know what you call this special feature but it's really cool! ๐Ÿ˜

I have something super important I want to say. I kindly request that you take just a moment to read this ๐Ÿ

Iโ€™m seeing more and more file hosting sites collecting digital resources and eBooks to share with other people, as well as resource files being spread through things like WhatsApp.

I get it, you want to spread the good. However it is important to understand that in the vast majority of cases, uploading and sharing files is against copyright and brings about many issues.

๐—ช๐—ต๐˜† ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ฒ๐˜€ ๐—ถ๐˜ ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ?

Firstly most content creators, authors and bloggers who create resources put in a great deal of time and money in creating that material (even the content they give freely.)
When you share the files instead of the page link then it stops other people visiting their site and so the author doesnโ€™t know people want these resources and may not produce more.

Secondly, many sisters are trying to find a way to earn money through their site so that they can work from home (everyone has bills to pay). Preventing people visiting their site may make the difference between them being able to pay a bill or not.

Yes our sustenance is from Allah, but we still have to tie our camel.

More important than the explanation above, it is imperative when it comes to Islamic material that authors are clearly known and identified so that we know where the information has come from and we can see sources to know whether they are sound or not. This is to preserve the Deen upon truth and protect it against falsehood.

The argument that knowledge should be given fisabillah - these sisters who create free material do give it fisabillah which is why itโ€™s even more important not to take their files to share.
๐Ÿ‘‡
If a sister realises there is an error in one of her resources then she can edit and correct it along with a public announcement to notify everyone of the mistake in her work and the correction.
If her files have been taken and shared on other platforms not her own, then now we have the situation where we find incorrect material published out in the world than can not be changed.

๐—ช๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฑ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ฑ๐—ผ?

Simple....just share the original webpage link where others can also access the resource or ebook. Sharing page links means there is full transparency of ownership and you still get to help share good. Everyone wins.

If you receive a file someone has sent you, then please verify whether you have the permission to use and distribute from the content creator.

Never should paid resources & eBooks ever be hosted and distributed - this is theft in the same way as taking goods without paying for them from a physical store to share with friends is.

Please respect and honour the rights of others. ๐Ÿ“

We're trying to make the most out of the current not-quite-a-lockdown (they call it "circuit breaker") situation here in SG ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ. With school closed, we spend much less time and effort on the logistical aspects of school, freeing up more time for #Quran studies. โค๏ธ We have been reviewing the tajweed rules the kiddo learnt previously, and she's progressed to reciting the Qur'an while applying the rules. We also study the tafseer together, alongside the @alive.sg lesson plans uploaded online each week during this closure period. The surah covered this term is Al-Balad, one she's familiar with but hasn't read the tafseer for. I almost wish school closure will continue through Ramadhan so we have more time for #quranstudy during the blessed month! #14daystoramadhan #homeplayschool #muslimhomeschool #homeschool #islamichomeschooling #islamiceducation #learningthequran #quranforkids 11/04/2020

I've enjoyed @theawkwardyeti's Heart and Brain webcomic for many years now and I even bought the books, which the kiddo discovered and practically claimed for herself. Apparently, he writes children's books now, too, and this one is AWESOME! It talks about the solar system, the seasons, the water cycle and more, in a kid-friendly and humorous way. Can't wait to read the next title (The Brain is Kind of a Big Deal) when @publiclibrarysg has it! #homeplayschool #homeplayschoolreads #bookstagram #nowreading #picturebooks #nickseluk #scholasticbooks 09/04/2020

โ€ข What happens if you catch the coronavirus?
โ€ข Why are people worried about catching the coronavirus?
โ€ข Is there a cure for the coronavirus?
โ€ข Why are some places we normally go to closed?
โ€ข What can I do to help?
โ€ข Whatโ€™s going to happen next?

How I keep the kiddo focused and accountable while on #homebasedlearning: I collate the instructions from her teachers into a daily to-do list which she has to check off. The HBL plan released by her school appears to have all the work neatly listed down, but in reality, the teachers tack on additional tasks or instructions via Google Classroom, ClassDojo or other channels. Pulling them all together in a list helps a lot in organising the "school" day at home. She'll eventually have to write up the daily to-do list on her own when I need to start running my online lectures later. Today was only the first day of home-based learning here in Singapore and she settled into it quite smoothly since we already went through the process for a week previously. #homeplayschool #distancelearning #sgunited 08/04/2020
