Our transport workers are there to look after us. Let’s look after them too.

Every day, our transport workers go to work with one responsibility, to get commuters safely to where they need to be. They should never have to fear being assaulted or abused while doing their jobs.

NTWU is aware of a case involving the physical assault of a Go-Ahead Singapore Bus Captain on 16 August 2026, while he was carrying out his duties on Service 2.

An NTWU representative accompanied the Bus Captain to Changi General Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. Thankfully, his injuries were not serious, and with the support of Go-Ahead Singapore, a police report has been lodged.

Behind every uniform is a person with family and loved ones waiting for them to come home safely. Our Bus Captains work long hours, navigate busy roads and serve thousands of commuters every day. Violence and abuse should never be accepted as “part of the job”.

NTWU and Go-Ahead Singapore stand firmly with our transport workers, and we will continue to support the affected Bus Captain.

A meaningful afternoon of fellowship, appreciation and good company.

Today, NTWU hosted our 7th Month prayers, bringing together our union leaders and partners for an evening of camaraderie and celebration.

These occasions are a valuable opportunity for us to reconnect, strengthen the relationships we have built over the years, and continue nurturing the strong partnerships that support our transport workers and the wider industry.

As we mark the 7th Month, we also extend our warmest wishes to all our transport workers — 平平安安, 工作顺利, for safe and smooth journeys at work, and for everyone to return home safely to their loved ones each day.

A big thank you to all our union leaders and partners who joined us and made the evening a memorable one.

Here’s to stronger bonds, continued partnership and looking out for one another. ❤️

An evening of good company, meaningful conversations and community spirit at the SMRT Woodlands Depot 7th Month Getai.

It was heartening to see our public transport workers, management and union representatives come together to reconnect, enjoy the evening and celebrate the strong bonds that keep our public transport family moving.

A big thank you to everyone who made the evening a memorable one. Beyond the work we do every day, it’s these moments of connection and camaraderie that remind us to look out for one another.

Here’s to building an even stronger workplace community, together. ❤️

Think Safety. Work Safely. Go Home Safe.

Every day, thousands of workers work behind the scenes to keep Singapore’s public transport network running safely and reliably. Many of them are employed by SMRT’s contractor partners, but they play an equally important role in keeping our transport system moving.

At the 4th Annual SMRT Contractors’ Safety Forum 2026, NTWU joined SMRT and industry partners in reaffirming a shared commitment to workplace safety, workforce transformation and skills development.

Every worker deserves the same standard of safety, the opportunity to build new skills, and the chance to benefit from transformation at the workplace. Through the Queen Bee partnership and the Company Training Committee (CTC) framework, SMRT, NTUC and NTWU are working together to make transformation more accessible for smaller companies and their workers.

As the industry embraces AI and new technologies, the focus remains the same: using innovation to make work safer, reduce strain on workers, and create better jobs and opportunities for workers.

Elevating The Bus Captains profession, together 🚌

NTWU and SBS Transit have launched Project Elevate, a joint initiative to make the Bus Captain profession a more sustainable, rewarding and fulfilling career.

At the heart of Project Elevate is our Bus Captains. This initiative focuses on strengthening their working conditions, career development, and overall care and welfare. This includes enhanced mental wellness and peer support through the CARE Network, clearer career progression pathways, better workplace support, and greater support for female Bus Captains.

These efforts respond to what matters to our workers: opportunities to grow, support when they need it, and the recognition and respect they deserve.

Our Bus Captains shoulder an important responsibility every day, keeping Singapore moving safely while serving our commuters and communities.

NTWU will continue working closely with SBS Transit and our tripartite partners to champion better jobs, better prospects and better lives for our Bus Captains. ❤️

Kudos to BC Zhang for his courage and bravery! 👏 His actions are a great reminder of the commitment our transport workers demonstrate every day.

When 🚌 Bus Captain Zhang Zhipeng spotted smoke 🔥 coming from a car along Holland Road, he quickly stepped forward to lend a helping hand.

“I didn’t think much about it and just went forward to help as I was worried the fire would get bigger,” said BC Zhang.

We’re proud of BC Zhang for staying calm and helping a fellow road user when it mattered. 👏

To all NTWU members and your families, thank you for your dedication, commitment and service.

Happy National Day! Let’s continue to Go Beyond, together. 🇸🇬

Autonomous buses coming to Singapore may only be 16-seaters, a fraction of what a manned bus is capable of. However, it is still a game-changing pilot that, if successful, may lead to newer and higher-capacity AV buses.

That is why NTWU, together with our tripartite partners, has agreed to engage the workforce early to understand their jobs, concerns, readiness and views firsthand from the very beginning.

This time, we are at SMRT Gali Batu Bus Depot, a depot designed for electric buses. Will we see AV buses operating out of this depot one day?

Regardless, we are committed to ensuring that the pace of the technology rollout is in sync with workforce readiness to adapt and transition, so that no one’s livelihood will be impacted.
