💭 Why Adults Must Step In When Bullying Happens

I was bullied since preschool. At first, I didn’t know why. Maybe I was too loud, too bossy, or simply different from the kids around me.

Children fight and tease—it’s part of learning boundaries. But the real wound came when the adults around me failed to step in.

My mom’s first reaction: “What did you do to be bullied?”
My teachers’ response: “Don’t take it personally.”

I endured in silence… until at 15, I became a bully myself. It wasn’t out of pride—it was the only way I knew how to protect myself.

👉 Here’s the message I want to leave with educators, leaders, and parents:

Don’t dismiss.
Don’t suppress.
Instead, listen, validate, and intervene.
Because the right action from an adult can break the cycle of pain and change a life. 💙

Post-Surgery Reflections 💭

Hysterectomy Recovery

This week, I took a significant step for my health and underwent a hysterectomy. I’m currently in recovery, and while it hasn’t been the easiest experience physically, I’m deeply grateful — for the care I’ve received, the support from loved ones, and the opportunity to prioritize my well-being.

Being in a hospital bed (as pictured) reminds me how important it is to listen to our bodies, take the necessary time to heal, and not shy away from making tough decisions when it comes to our health.

To anyone else navigating medical journeys, chronic conditions, or major life transitions: your strength is valid, even in the quietest, most vulnerable moments.

I’ll be taking a short break to focus on recovery, but I’m looking forward to returning with more clarity, resilience, and gratitude.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out — it truly means a lot.

“What is life?”
A student asked me this not long ago.
Interestingly… so did my children.
It caught me off guard—but in a gentle, grounding way.
I thought back to the years I spent surviving.
Running from task to task. From pressure to pressure. From version of myself to another.
I never had the chance to ask, “What is life?”
Because life back then felt like something to endure, not explore.
But now I know—
Life is not a fixed destination. It’s not a single moment of arrival.
It’s the wandering.
It’s the rebuilding.
It’s the pausing to notice what’s real and what’s yours.
It’s the gentle knowing that purpose evolves, and we don’t need to rush to meet it.
That we are allowed to learn, unlearn, begin again—and again.
🌿 And in all this searching, one thing remains true:
Healing begins the moment we feel safe enough to be seen.
To be human.
To not have all the answers.
To say “this hurts” and “I’m trying” in the same breath.
That safety may come through therapy.
Through community.
Or in the quiet corners of reflection.

and you long for a space where you can simply be without judgement—

It invites presence.
And it grows best in spaces of compassion, collaboration, and care.

"Black like Indian."
That was the remark a group of children made at a school performance I was helping with. I had volunteered to support backstage with makeup, and after putting on some eyeliner, a few kids—and their parents—commented that their eyes looked “too black, like Indian eyes.”
It stung.
What hurt more was that no parent or teacher paused to challenge that mindset.
It’s not the first time. My own child, despite speaking fluent Mandarin, has faced exclusion because of her skin colour. The subtle and not-so-subtle cues that she doesn’t belong—because of how she looks—mirror what so many children of colour experience today.
As a child who grew up in Singapore, I never experienced this. So I find myself asking: What changed? Why are these remarks surfacing more frequently now?
Racism doesn’t start in adulthood—it’s learned early, often silently permitted in playgrounds and homes. But so is empathy. So is kindness. So is respect.
I share this not to call out, but to call in.
Because silence, too, shapes our children. And so does speaking up.
