Written by Monica Gwee, this is a biography celebrating the life of the late Iskandar Ismail, who was well-known as one of Singapore’s foremost maestros.

Do you know that Iskandar Ismail was in charge of the music productions and direction of the National Day Parade and composed songs for the annual Chingay street parade, Singapore Youth Festival and Lunar Year celebrations for many years?

What is even more admirable is that even when he was doing a small charity concert, compared to all his big shows, he spent the same amount of care looking into every detail.

He also spends large blocks of personal time coaching, nurturing and sharing his lifetime
experience with an army of varied young talents locally and on international stages.

Even when Iskandar was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2010, he maintained the same workingpace during the treatment process. Shows and music is his life. Sadly, Iskandar succumbed tohis illness on 1 November 2014. He left behind his wife and two children.

Reading about his life story inspires us to not only think about ourselves, but use our ability and influence to lift others up along the way.

"Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind".

Samuel Ullman (April 13, 1840 – March 21, 1924) was an American businessman, poet, humanitarian, and religious leader. He is best known for this poem "Youth," which was a favorite of General Douglas MacArthur.

The poem was on the wall of MacArthur's office in Tokyo when he became Supreme Allied Commander in Japan. In addition, MacArthur often quoted from the poem in his speeches, leading to it becoming better known in Japan than in the United States.

It has inspired a generation of Japanese citizens, businessmen, and government leaders who were faced with rebuilding their country after World War II.
