The SMU Law Academy (SMULA) will present a course on Dispute Resolution Advocacy as part of its auditing programme. This practical and hands-on course is designed to equip candidates to become successful advocates in dispute resolution settings including mediations.

Participants who pass the requisite assessment and fulfil the requisite criteria will be eligible for accreditation as an International Mediation Institute (IMI) Mediation Advocate. Eligible participants will also be entitled to take this course in fulfilment of the requirements of our upcoming Executive Certificate in Mediation.

The Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy is proud to be a supporting organisation for Singapore International Arbitration Centre's YSIAC Conference 2021.

For the first time ever, the YSIAC Conference 2021 will be held virtually, over three days from 9 to 11 November 2021. This year’s conference will feature an exciting series of webinars, on topics ranging from ESG disputes, the impact of cryptocurrency, blockchain and NFTs to a review of the global arbitration landscape in the Americas and Asia-Pacific. Participants can also look forward to gaining new perspectives from the ArbXTalk sessions, and interactive events such as Speed Conferencing.

The Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy is proud to be a supporting organisation for the Public International Law Webinar Series, which brings together leading public international law practitioners, academics and arbitrators to discuss topical issues of global importance.

The fourth session will be happening tomorrow, Tuesday, 26 October 2021. This webinar looks at the practice of treaty negotiations, with insights from present and former government legal advisers. The panellists (co-moderated by Oonagh Sands and Ryce Lee) will discuss their experiences with treaty negotiations in various fora, the types of instruments they have negotiated, strategies for consensus building, and the role of civil society in the process.

The webinar will be recorded and made available to registrants for 7 days after the webinar. The link to access the recording will be sent to registrants after the webinar.

Chinese Subtitles Expert Panel on Investor State Dispute Settlement and Mediation 21/10/2021

The Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy has just released its Chinese subtitled version of four expert panel videos on mediation advocacy, mixed-mode processes, online mediation, and investor-state dispute settlement and mediation.

In the mediation advocacy panel, we had the privilege of having Samuel Chacko (Head of Dispute Resolution Practice Group from Legis Point LLC), Francis Goh (Partner and Head of International Arbitration and Mediation, and Private Client Advisory from Harry Elias Partnership) and See Chern Yang (Director of Dispute Resolution from Drew & Napier LLC) engage in a conversation on their views and experiences as seasoned mediation advocates. The Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy is hiring! We're on the look out for a part-time Research Assistant to conduct research on the China International Commercial Court.

The part-time Research Assistant would be conducting research on Chinese domestic law, international law, and other legal issues involved in CICC judgements and rulings, as well as writing research reports, conducting regular meetings and exchanges with project leaders (remote-style) and co-writing academic articles.

You will be hired from 1 December 2021 - 31 March 2022 (adjustable)

Master of Law and doctoral students who are interested in Chinese law and international law, and have a foundation in research or have a law degree in a university in mainland China, or have strong English reading and writing skills may apply!

Singapore Convention On Mediation 14/10/2021

Turkey is the eighth state party to ratify the United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation, also known as the "Singapore Convention on Mediation". The ratification by Turkey was effected on 11 October 2021 and the Convention will enter into force for Turkey on 11 April 2022.

The Singapore Convention on Mediation facilitates international trade and promotes mediation as an alternative and effective method of resolving commercial disputes by providing an effective mechanism for the enforcement of international settlement agreements resulting from mediation.
