International Built Environment Week - IBEW

Archi(fu)ture Design Challenge 2022
Dates: 13 to 15 January 2022
Time: 9AM to 7PM

Calling all students who are interested to experience the unique and fun approach of learning in SUTD’s Architecture and Sustainable Design (ASD) programme. Come and learn about how Architecture and Sustainability can go hand-in-hand to address one of the most pressing global issues of our generation: climate change.

Through this 3-day workshop conducted by SUTD’s professors and guided by our student facilitators, participants will

learn about the creative process that goes behind designing buildings
have a chance to design your own modular treehouse
be taught the necessary skills to experience the digital work supplementing your creation process.

This event is only open to students aged between 16 to 21 who are either currently enrolled in or have just graduated from high schools or Polytechnics in Singapore, or are current NSFs. Participants have to be residing in Singapore as this workshop is expected to take place physically at SUTD campus.

As spaces are limited, please make sure that you are able to fully commit to the 3-day programme before registering your interest.

Closing date: 2 January 2022 or when spaces are filled up, whichever is earlier.

In this workshop, you will learn about upcycling by using origami techniques to fold paper waste into beautiful and useful 3-dimensional objects. PROTECC! is a fun and beautifully illustrated card game (2-8 players) that introduces conversation about conservation. From heritage sites, schools, museums to even HDBs, this card game showcases the different types of buildings found in Singapore. It truly is a collector’s item for all locals, architects, heritage, and culture lovers!

PROTECC! is designed by a team of M.Arch students for their final assignment for the elective module 20.305: Conservation Theories & Approaches of Built Heritage. It was envisioned to be a tool kit as a fun and engaging medium to introduce locals to the conversation about conservation in Singapore.

We are pleased to share that Associate Professor Yeo Kang Shua’s latest book, Divine Custody: A History of Singapore’s Oldest Teochew Temple will be launched virtually this Saturday 25 September (4pm Singapore Time) online: https://buff.ly/38V26Lr.

Prof. Yeo Kang Shua Kang Shua will be joined by discussant, Associate Professor Hui Yew Foong, an anthropologist from Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Contemporary China Research Center.

Join Asst. Prof Immanuel Koh in a new series of a collaborative think-tank roundtable focusing on integrated sustainability and urban creativity, with the support of high caliber panels from various industries and education institutions.

Organized by Integrated Sustainability & Urban Creativity Centre (ISUC), the series aims to create a platform that will help start conversation to empower the community with sustainability and knowledge and address relevant global issues that can be solved with “Sustainable Thinking, Responsible for Creating”.
