[Like-A-Local] What Is Carrot Cake & Fried Oyster Omelette — And Where to Find Local Gems
If you’re new to Singapore, “Carrot Cake” can be confusing. There’s no carrot. No cake. And definitely no frosting.
What you’ll find instead is a Teochew hawker classic: steamed radish cake chopped and fried with egg, garlic and preserved radish — either savoury white or sweet dark soy “black”.
And then there’s its close cousin, Fried Oyster Omelette — crisp-edged, slightly gooey, packed with briny oysters and wok-hei.
We’ve curated a list of carrot cake and oyster omelette stalls across the island worth queuing for — from old-school neighbourhood legends to Michelin-recognised favourites.
The real question is:
⚫ Black or White?
☯️ Half-Half?
🦪 Oyster Omelette over everything?
